Gallup: In Shift, More Americans Now Call Themselves Democrats
In a (perhaps) historic shift, more Americans now consider themselves Democrats than Republicans, the Gallup organization revealed today…. Independents now make up 34% of the population. When asked if they lean in a certain direction, their answers pushed the Democrat numbers to 49% with Republicans at 42%. One year ago, the parties were dead even at 46% each.
As interesting, and, yes, exciting as this news is, it’s too early to get overly excited. Though more Americans now call themselves Democrats, we’re going to have to wait for another seven-plus months to see if this translates to victories at the ballot box.
There’s another problem here as well. The leadership of the Democratic party has shown no evidence that they understand how to seize and exploit this opportunity. Yes, we may now be a majority, but it’s certainly not because of anything the party has done to win over the American sheeple. No, this success can largely be laid to the fact that Our Glorious Leader is an idiot and the Republican Party is home to the corrupt, the ignorant, and the venal. Without the gift that is George W. Bush, the Republican Party would still likely be in the driver’s seat.
It can only be a good thing that Americans are finally coming to their senses and recognizing Republicans for the corrupt, empty suits they truly are. Having said that, Democrats are only halfway home. Now we need to find a way to convince the American sheeple to vote Democratic instead of merely talking Democratic.
