We want your money...we just don't want you

Dallas Trumps Houston On Enticing Gay Tourists: Gay Travelers Spend $65 Billion Annually On Travel

“Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender travelers spend $65 billion a year on travel and we want to make sure Dallas positions itself to take advantage of that,” said Dallas CVB chief executive officer Phillip Jones.

It’s a truism as old as business itself: money doesn’t care who spends it. A dollar is the same shade of green whether it’s in the wallet of a Democrat, a Republican, a child molester, or a serial killer. It makes sense, then, that Dallas is trying to attract more gay travellers while at the same time doing their level best to demonize and marginalize gay and lesbian Texans. The surprise is that Houston doesn’t seem to be making the same efforts to attract gay money (of course, Harris County does execute more people than Dallas- so THERE….) After all, tourists come, spend their money, and leave. Texans live here, so we’re pretty much stuck with them.

Good, God-fearing Texans are quite happy to legislate gays and lesbians to the margins of society. They cannot marry, they cannot raise children, and they cannot enjoy the familial rights that “normal” people take for granted. Oh, but these same good, God-fearing Texans have no problem accepting money from the same people they so openly despise. No double standards at work here, eh?

When viewers visit Dallas’ Web site and click on the Diverse Dallas button, the site shows pictured icon groups that spotlight segmented communities of the city’s population, including the African-American, Asian and Hispanic communities. The Web site now includes a link to the GLBT community.

GLBT? No, that’s not the Generous Lettuce, Bacon, and Tomato sandwich community to those of you not versed in such things. GLBT, if memory serves, means the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender community. While their lifestyles may not be something that you or I might choose to engage in, their money is just as green as yours or mine, and cities that despise them seem to have no problem with accepting their money.

It would seem that hypocrisy is no barrier to doing business…even with those you consider just this side of Satan.

Give us your money…the f—k off and die….
