When is a donation not as altruistic as you might think?

Former first lady’s donation aids son: Katrina funds earmarked to pay for Neil Bush’s software program

Regarding the fact that Bush’s earmarked donation also benefited her son’s company, Becker said, “Mrs. Bush is obviously an enthusiastic supporter of her son. She is genuinely supportive of his program,” and has received many letters from educators who support it. Bush “honestly felt this would be a great way to help the (evacuee) students.”

Interesting, isn’t it, how having the right last name and a lot of friends with a lot of money seems to go a long way towards creating yet more money? Of course, when you’re one President’s brother and another’s son…well, let’s just say that the Bush surname opens a lot of doors in and around Houston. Nothing like being born with a silver foot in your mouth, eh?

Granted, Neil Bush’s Ignite Learning has a good thing with its “Curriculum on Wheels” software program, and the altruism factor here is not something that should be ignored. Nonetheless, to say that this whole thing doesnt smell of typical Bush-style cronyism would be a gross misstatement. Even when trying to do good, this family manages to look out for it’s own.

This sort of thing is hard atypical of the Bush clan. Indeed, the family history is replete with instances of family members getting behind projects sponsored by other family members, even when there is the possibility of at least the appearance of a conflict of interest. This particular situation simply demonstrates how clueless and out of touch Barbara Bush really is. She really doesn’t understand the way he donation and her stipulation that it be used to buy Ignite’s product will look. Yes, it is a donation, and yes, it is not altogether unusual for a donor to stipulate how his or her donation may be employed. What the Matriarch of the Bush clan fails to realize (or perhaps simply doesn’t care to recognize) is that using the Bush surname to open doors also means that anything done by a member of the clan will incur greater scrutiny. In this case, it looks like just another case of the Bush Family’s Evil Empire looking out for one of it’s own. After all, when you’re to the manor born, thinking that you are above the rules that govern mere mortals is hardly unusual…and it’s something that Barbara Bush is famous for.
