Consummating the relationship

Tony Snow Named White House Press Secretary

Snow, former host of FOX News Talk’s “The Tony Snow Show” and anchor of “FOX News Sunday,” will replace outgoing spokesman Scott McClellan. Snow had been considering the White House’s offer for the last several days.

It’s long been an open secret that the relationship between the Fox News Channel and the Bush Administration has been somewhat on the cozy side. Actually joined at the hips might be a more accurate description. Now, with Our Glorious Leader hiring FNC commentator Tony Snow as his Press Secretary, the line between FNC and the GOP has been erased. While I’m certain that Snow is a capable, intelligent, and eminently qualified individual. clearly no one in the White House was terribly concerned with the message that Snow’s hiring sends to the American sheeple.

In a very real sense, Snow’s hiring points out just how little Our Glorious Leader thinks of the American sheeple. Clearly, he sees no conflict of interest in hiring as his chief talking head a man who works for the Republican Party’s de facto propaganda arm. Yes, this is the same Tony Snow who stated in 2003 that “racism isn’t that big a deal anymore”. Ironically enough, Snow’s uttered these worlds in defense of Rush Limbaugh, no slouch when it comes to espousing racist, sexist, and classist points of view.

Oddly enough, Snow hasn’t exactly been a vocal supporter of the President, having pilloried him as recently as November for cowering in his commitment to the core beliefs of Conservatism. Of course, politics does make for strange bedfellows, and with Our Glorious Leader’s poll numbers in freefall, grasping at straws probably seems like a viable (and perhaps the only) option at this point.

Yes, it would seem that the President of all Americans is in fact beholden to his wealthy corporate masters. Not that this is a particularly new or startling revelation, I would imagine, but it certainly is a disturbing reality. In the next two-plus years, the Bush Administration may well spending their time destroying anything they can touch before the leave office. That Tony Snow would choose to be an integral part of the train wreck that is this Presidency speaks volumes of the business relationship that ties Fox News to the GOP. Joined at the hip indeed….
