Stars blow late lead, lose in OT as Avs go up 3-0
Anyone care to explain whatever the hell is going on here? It’s not unusual for the Stanley Cup playoffs to not exactly follow form, but this is ridiculous. The Carolina Hurricanes, the #2 seed in the East, are down 2-1 to a Montreal club that by all rights should be making tee times right about now. The West’s #1 seed, the evil, blood-sucking Detroit Red Wings are down 2-1 to Edmonton, and the #2 Dallas Stars are down 3-0 to Colorado. In Dallas’ case, I suppose this is what happens when you decide to mail a series in.
Last night, the Stars took it into the game’s final minutes before giving up the tying goal. Then Colorado scored the winner in OT, and before anyone at Pepsi Center could process what had happened, their Avalanche were one game away from a series sweep over the team many have picked as the favorite to win the Stanley Cup. Get a roll of stamps and mail it in, eh?
If things don’t change, we could end up with a Nashville- New Jersey matchup in the Stanley Cup Finals (yawn). No wonder the NHL is such a mess.
Game on, eh??
