For the ignorant and small-minded shall always be among us

Los Intolerantes

“LOS RANGERS”

Friday evening, the New York Yankees beat the Texas Rangers 8-7 at Ameriquest Field (nice ballpark, horrible name…IMHO) in a game that will be neither much noted nor long remembered for what took place on the field. What was notable was a gesture the Rangers made to their Hispanic fans. Being that it was Cinco de Mayo, the Rangers wore home jerseys with “Los Rangers” embroidered on the front. A small gesture, to be certain, but with the sizable Hispanic population here in the Great State of Texas, not one that went unnoticed. Unfortunately, the Rangers’ simple gesture was one that attracted a lot of unwanted attention from hatemongers nationwide. Even former DUMB@$$ Michelle Malkin jumped into the fray- not that she really had anything useful or intelligent to add. Sometimes it really IS better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

The Rangers decided to honor the Cinco de Mayo holiday by honoring their Hispanic fans AND doing some charitable good at the same time. Contrary to what Malkin and her fellow knuckle-dragging troglodytes might think, there doesn’t appear to be any evidence of any hidden social or political agenda in play here. The Ranger were simply recognizing an important Hispanic holiday while also raising some money for their foundation. Nothing a reasonable person could certainly find fault with there. Then again, no one with a functional intellect has ever accused Malkin of being reasonable. Ironic, isn’t it? A Filipino-American woman peddling hate and ignorance when it comes to immigrants. I mean, only a hate-filled Right-wing troglodyte could possibly find something to be angry about with this:

On Friday, May 5, the Texas Rangers will celebrate Cinco de Mayo by wearing unique, commemorative jerseys. Following the game, each member of the team will autograph their game-worn Los Rangers jersey, and fans will have the opportunity to win the jerseys through a special raffle from the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit Dallas/Fort Worth non-profit organizations that support the Hispanic community. The raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each at Rangers Promotions kiosks and by volunteers during home games through May 5. …

The Los Rangers jerseys are made by Majestic and are styled after the Rangers home uniform. Los Rangers will be stitched across the front of the jersey and a commemorative Cinco de Mayo patch will be worn on the right sleeve along with the Texas flag patch on the left sleeve. …

That night Texas Chevy Dealers will be sponsoring a Los Rangers T-Shirt giveaway to the first 10,000 fans 14 & over. Additional activities on May 5 will consist of musical performances from Mariachi Michoacan and the Latin Music Ensemble from Booker T Washington High School, and Ballet Folklorico de Fort Worth will be performing on the concourse prior to the start of the game.

Somehow, Malkin manages to turn this simple gesture into some sort of sinister political statement, and even worse, evidence of an insidious double standard:

I understand the Rangers wanted to do something innocuous to recognize a holiday celebrating historical and cultural pride. But the politically correct selectivity here is telling. While it’s considered a celebration of “diversity” to acknowledge the military sacrifices of another nation’s heroes, it’s considered racist to acknowledge the military sacrifices of one’s own.

Case in point: Can you imagine if someone proposed changing the Rangers’ jerseys to “Confederate Rangers” to celebrate Confederate Heroes’ Day?

Oh, and I’m sure I’ll be labeled a racist for pointing out the double standard.

Like that’s anything new…

Uh, sadly, it really isn’t anything new. What I fail to understand is the “politically correct selectivity” aspect of Malkin’s argument? For Christ’s sake, it was Cinco de Mayo, which just happens to be an important Hispanic holiday and an excuse for gringos to drink too much cerveza on a warm Friday night at one of the best ballparks in the Major Leagues. Can’t some things just be accepted for what they are? Must Right-wing trolls find some sort of insidious political agenda buried in virtually any human endeavor?

No, there is no double standard in evidence here, and yes, Michelle Malkin really IS a DUMB@$$. Amazing, isn’t it, how so much hate and ignorace can come in such a tiny little package. I’m constantly flabbergasted that Malkin actually manages to make a handsome living peddling said hate and ignorance. As time passes, Malkin is managing to make Ann Coulter look like the very soul and embodiment of moderation. She’s like Rush Limbaugh with breasts.

Yet another example of creating a political issue and an excuse for sowing hatred out of whole cloth. It really is easier to react emotionally than it is to engage your brain and actually THINK, eh? Sadly, hatred and ignorance really DO sell in this day age.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
