Game on, eh?

Oiler fan turmoil: Havoc embarrassment to city, mayor declares

Edmonton hockey fans create beer emergency

And here all this time you’d been thinking that Canadians were gentle, fun-loving sorts who took things in stride. Little did you know that most Edmontonians have relatives in Detroit, which must be where they learned their looting and burning skills. Anyone who has ever seen Detroti celebrate the Pistons or Red Wings winning a championshiop can attest to this.

Now that Edmonton is apparently running out of beer, how’s a self-respecting Oilers fan supposed to celebrate their beloved team making it to the Stanley Cup finals? If you can’t drink yourself into oblivion, you might as well rip stuff up, eh?

Kinda makes you wonder what would happen if someone in Edmonton did something REALLY important, like…oh, I don’t know…invent a cure for cancer, or cancel Deal Or No Deal?

I’m all for celebrating, but destroying public property and rioting? And this in a city that’s allegedly running out of beer? Man, I’d hate to think what would happen if Edmonton were fully provisioned. Someone really ought to hide the liquor and ammunition….

As the celebration passed midnight on Saturday, some fans began breaking windows. Others threw wood onto a growing bonfire in the middle of the street. Two phone booths were also trashed, 15 people were arrested and crews had to put out fires in garbage containers…..

There have been stabbings, women cavorting semi-nude while being held aloft in shopping carts, arrests for vandalism and drunkenness and people using a schoolyard as a public toilet.

Yep, sounds like Detroit to me…except if we were in Detroit, there would be a few overturned cars en fuego- perhaps even a police car or three.

I understand that hockey is king in Canada, and that it’s been 16 years since Edmonton’s Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup Finals…but is that really an excuse for staging open auditions for a Girls Gone Wild video?
