Gypsies in the palace

Jack left town, and left the keys to the castle to us unsavory types. And while the cat’s away, the rats will play. Sure, we’ll mow the lawn and collect the newspapers, but we’ll also make ample use of the pool and shoot the lock off the liquor cabinet.

Lets see what we can find as we peruse the nooks and crannies of TPRC…

Here’s a good one. It appears that Houston-based Superior Renewable Energy plans to build a wind turbine farm off the coast of South Padre Island. Some envinronmentalists are complaining that this will have an adverse affect on birds. They are afraid that, in inclement weather, the birds will fly low enough and, splat! Actually, it’d be more like a “poof” and a cloud of feathers.

I’m all for protecting the environment, but I think these whiners are underestimating the birds. I’ve been to South Padre, and those birds are no slouches. If they can dive-bomb the rear view mirror on my car, I think they will be able to see a bunch of huge wind turbines. In fact, they will probably be throwing their droppings at them, just to see them hit the fan.

Besides, this is an alternate form of energy we’re talking about. Would they prefer that the birds fly into the side of an oil rig? I mean, worse comes to worse, we can always throw up a wind screen.

By the way, have you ever noticed that when birds fly in a V-formation, that the sides of the V are not the same length? Know why one side is longer?

Because there are more birds on that side.

"Because there are more birds on that side."

LMAO Wyld Card. That was so simply brilliant, I wish it wasn't too early for a Guiness! If the birds are as big a problem as alleged, a simple solution would be to put a low current, bright LED on the blades.

Sometimes, I just have to wonder about some of the environmentalists. Sometimes more than others. In this case, they'll moan and whine, delay the project and increase its cost, while feeling good about themselves for forcing their superior caring and intellect on the rest of us evil engergy hungry citizens. The sad thing is that many of them are sincere.

Such is not the case with Sen. Edward Kennedy, D Mass. (The "D" stands for Duplicitous Prick.) If the good Senator made one of his homes near our beautiful Redneck Riviera, the birds would have nothing to worry about (with the possible exception of being in the path of Teddy's car as it carreened off of the seawall.)

I have to agree with you on this one. The wind turbine farms are a great idea.

The environmentalists should come here to Seabrook, League City and surrounding areas on the Gulf Coast and help us stop these rampant developers from paving over all the wetlands and fields. The last thing this area needs is more cookie-cutter McMansions. Help save the egrets, herons, pelicans and other coastal birds HERE!
