It's tough to be a martyr when you're locked for 23.5 hours a day

Moussaoui’s fate is worse than death … obscurity

Let me make myself clear. The world would in no way be diminished were Zacarias Moussaoui not in it. And the desire among Americans to execute someone for the 9/11 atrocity was understandable. But Moussaoui appeared to be more psycho than actively criminal. The exciters of public opinion wanted to emphasize the criminal, in which case, we could have stuck a lethal needle into his arm.

I understand that for some, the desire for revenge is still great, and that the execution of Zacarias Moussaoui would have sent a clear message that America hasn’t forgotten, nor is it in a mood to forgive 9.11. At some point, though, don’t we have to come to grips with the anger and the hatred? Is it not possible to remember without being consumed by the desire for vengeance? Yes, I remain as angered by the events of 9.11 as anyone, but I also know that I cannot change what has already happened. What I CAN do is decide how I am going to let 9.11 impact me and how I live my life.

I am not going to go through life angry. I am not going to hate Arabs or others who would do us harm. Carrying that kind of anger and hatred day after day will, in the long run, only hurt me. This by no means should be taken as an indication that I am somehow willing to appease the terrorists. These people are the scum of the earth, devoid of even the barest shred of humanity. I believe that at some point they will have to answer for their hatred, their ignorance, and their sociopathic desire to kill those who happen not to believe as they do. Call it karma, Judgement Day, or whatever you will, but I do believe that what goes around will eventually come around. Since I cannot change or influence what these Islamofascist troglodytes think, I choose to ignore them altogether. From where I sit, it’s s simple choice, really; you can choose the light or you can live in the dark. I choose light. Zacarias Moussaoui, and the rest of his knuckle-dragging Islamofascist troglodytes can feed off the dark hatred of their “religion”. I will not buy into the hatred that so many in this country feel for them, though I certainly recognize the threat they represent.

I believe that Zacarias Moussaoui received the perfect sentence. Instead of becoming a martyr for the cause of radical, knuckle-dragging Islamofascism, he has been sentenced to a life of enforced silent obscurity. He will spend 23.5 of each of his remaining 24 hours in a 7’ x 12’ cell, with no human interaction for the rest of his wretched, miserable existence. Yes, the thirst for vengeance would seem to argue for the execution of Zacarias Moussaoui, but killing him would simply have created another martyr. Now, Moussaoui will simply fade away, like Richard Reid and Theodore Kaczynski. It will be the perfect denouement to the sad, sorry existence of Zacarias Moussaoui. Good riddance.
