Criticizing what he deemed the immorality of Hollywood during his June 25 televised sermon, Jerry Falwell, founder and chairman of the Moral Majority Coalition, declared, “You know, you almost got to be a homosexual to be recognized in the entertainment industry anymore.” Falwell also described “[m]ovie stars” as “moral pervert[s]” for “having babies” out of wedlock.

I almost feel guilty for ridiculing Falwell for being such a bigoted, narrow fool. It’s like trying to do a slam-dunk on a basket that’s only six feet high; you don’t even have to leave your feet. Yes, when it comes to Jerry Falwell, the jokes almost write themselves, don’t they? It’s not that I don’t respect his right to hold whatever beliefs he sees fit. This is, after all, still a (nominally) free country. No, what boggles my mind is the hatred and condemnation Falwell shovels from his pulpit in the name of “Christianity”. Perhaps someone should explain the concepts of charity and forgiveness to him?
And guess what’s on the menu today?? How about ILLICIT SEX (GASP!!!)??
FALWELL: Illicit sex today. Today the world has gone sex crazy. Illicit sex has become the downfall of many in the Bible. Movie stars not married to each other, having babies and making headlines all over the world as though they were doing some great thing. Big deal! Just another moral pervert. And for them to become heroes for our kids. My wife and I will be married 49 years the next anniversary…. And don’t, don’t ever be proud of sin. You know, you almost got to be a homosexual to be recognized in the entertainment industry anymore. Ellen [Degeneres], and all the rest. I love them, pray for their souls, but they’re immoral. And the Hollywood scene — five and eight and 10 marriages — not something to be emulated.
Yeah, “I love them, but….” Sadly, Jerry Falwell is just another acquisitive, judgemental, self-righteous, self-absorbed troll who uses his version of Christianity to justify his special brand of hatred and ignorance. By standing in the pulpit on Sunday mornings and smiling beatifically as he spews he venomous philosophy, he provides many other rich, well-fed Caucasians with the justification to continue to discriminate against those whose lifestyle, philosophies, and belief system may differ from their own. Their God is not a just, forgiving, and loving God. No, theirs is a mean-spirited, intolerant God who countenances all manner of hatred, bigotry, and discrimination in His name.
Jeebus…can we stop use Jesus Christ as justification for being a bigoted, mean-spirited, self-righteous asshole?

Jerry Falwell is a good Christian man.Your obvious hatred of all he stands for is only too apparent. There are many people that share if not all, then most of his views. He is right--ollywood has tried to push this Homosexual crap on us in every way possible. The desesitizing of the American public is being accomplished with every new movie and talk show. The word "gay" does not diminish the deviant act itself. It makes me sick to think about what this does to someones body in the name of pleasure. That is what it is all about is the hedonistic pusuit of pleasure, regardless of the damaging effects it has on one's body. How can you make such a callous and mean-spirited remark about a kind man who proclaims to "love" these people. That is the core of Christianity which you liberals hate. The so-called venemous philosophy which Falwell tries to impart is not his, but from the divine word of God. I believe all people can be forgiven and are worthy of love. The devil uses all kinds of people that have not opened their hearts to God. I think you fit that category. Using street language also reflects your level of education, which is obviously not very high. I will not defend God but I know he watches everything and is waiting to forgive even the unjust and misguided. Psalms in the Bible has some great poems on this.Hatred causes poor health.Try yoga and reading Psalms.
hey, sherina, project much?
Falwell's in it for the money, babe.
Uh...Shirena...no Kool-Aid for sale here, babe. I don't begrudge you your beliefs nor your right to hold them, but methinks you've been partaking of the Kool-Aid just a wee bit too much, eh??
