Snow: There Is Too Much Focus on Kidnapped U.S. Soldiers
Snow on 2,500 U.S. Fatalities In Iraq: ‘It’s A Number’
On Friday, two U.S. troops were kidnapped at a checkpoint in Iraq. They remain missing. This morning on Fox News Sunday, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow criticized the press for spending too much time covering their plight.
It amazes and sickens me to see how cavalier this Administration is about the loss of American lives in Iraq. When Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader and his apologists prattle on endlessly about “staying the course”, my immediate question is “What course?” After that, the next logical question is, “And are ANY of your own children in harm’s way in Iraq?” It’s easy to be flip and off-handed in your comments when you’re not have to wrestle with the possibility of your son or daughter coming home in a bag- especially since no one can coherently discuss what it is, exactly, that our men and women in uniform are dying and being maimed for.
Republicans in the White House and in official Washington seem neither to understand nor care about the necessity of explaining just what it is our sons and daughters are fighting and dying for. And don’t go throwing cliches at us, like “they’re fighting for freedom”, or “Americans don’t cut and run”. What freedom (and whose) is being fought for? How is the Homeland at risk by what is happening in Iraq? And as for the “Americans don’t cut and run” canard, the corollary of this is apparently “Americans can’t admit when their leaders are taking advantage of their ignorance and somnolence, and are sacrificing our sons and daughters to support their corrupt and immoral war.”
Every time I listen to Tony Snow, I want to smack the arrogant, heartless bastard. These aren’t “numbers” we’re talking about here. These are our flesh and blood soldiers- our children- following orders and carrying out a mission with no plan and no discernible end in sight. This is the textbood definition of “QUAGMIRE”, and to say that Iraq is this generation’s Vietnam is no stretch.
Still glad you voted Republican?
