Batwoman is back as a lesbian

NEW YORK - Years after she first emerged from the Batcave, Batwoman is coming out of the closet. DC Comics is resurrecting the classic comic book character as a lesbian, unveiling the new Batwoman in July as part of an ongoing weekly series that began this year. The 5-foot-10 superhero comes with flowing red hair, knee-high red boots with spiked heels, and a form-fitting black outfit

Holy crap, Batman! Batwoman’s a lesbian?!? Apparently so. I thought superheros were immune to those sort of sexual orientation issues? Man, I can hardly wait until she gets her own website and hooks up her webcam, eh??

Of course, I could have all sorts of fun with DC Comics’s attempt to celebrate diversity by making a central character of a sexual minority. Somehow, I think this is probably what the orignators of the “Batman” series had in mind way back when…but then again we live in a much different world.

What I’m interested in is how long it will take before the American Taliban have a collective conniption about Catwoman liking girls. IS this just another example of the progressive moral decay of modern American society? Or is it just a comic book company deciding that the time has come to do something differently, to reflect the reality that not everyone thinks, live, or believes like you and me. Imagine that, eh?

I can hardly wait before some narrow-minded zealot begins quoting Scripture as they picket a comic book store, proclaiming against the immorality and ungodliness of it all. Whatever….

I guess hatred and ignorance really are family values, eh?
