Merry Christmas to me....

Clinton slams Coulter’s ‘vicious’ put-down of some 9/11 widows

Coulter exposes liberals’ ‘Godless religion’: New book launching 6-6-06 her most controversial

I’d like to go after Ann Coulter, I saw that nut-bag on the show earlier. What’s she doing wearing a cocktail dress at seven in the morning?

Hmm…judging by the sheer volume of people who’ve found TPRS over the past couple of days by doing Google searches for “Ann Coulter Naked”, you’d think she has a new book out. In fact, she does…and how I could have missed celebrating THAT blessed event is beyone me.

(In a moment of pure, unadulterated self-congratulation, allow me to digress for a fleeting instant, while I annouce that if you do a Google search for “Ann Coulter Nude”, TPRS is #1 AND #2. Damn, it’s good to be King….)

The Queen of “This world would be a lot more enjoyable to live in if only everyone just thought like I do” is at it again, this time with her latest paean to arrogant, self-absorbed, self-righteous Conservatism, “Godless: The Church of Liberalism”. And yes, as you might suspect by the title, Coulter is not exactly extending an olive branch to those not enlightened enough to believe in her brand of kill-them-all, let-God-sort-‘em-out Conservatism.

I generally make a policy of refraining from engaging in personal attacks or personal insults with those who don’t think or believe as I do, but I’ll make an exception in Coulter’s case. It’s not that she doesn’t think or believe as I do (Hell, I don’t want her on my side….), it’s that she’s so &)^%$#@ arrogant and cocksure about it, as if she and only she has access to The Truth. I don’t mind losing an argument to someone better informed, as long as that person is respectful. I cannot STAND being disrespected and regarded as lower than pond scum simply because a tramp like Ann Coulter manages to make love to every camera in the Western Hemisphere every time someone wants an interview with someone they can readily identify as a Conservative. Hmm…arrogant, self-righteous, completely impervious to any argument that doesn’t fit with her preconceived notions? Yep…that’s Ann Coulter, all right….

I’ll spare you the extended quote from WorldNetDaily’s slavishly obseqious review of “Godless” (you can read it for yourself if you feel like wasting your time). Suffice it to say that whoever wrote the review has a major hard-on for Coulter. I read the whole thing, and I just feel dirty.

Here’s one thing that just defies understanding, though:

Coulter is the author of four New York Times bestsellers: “How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must),” “Treason,” “Slander,” and “High Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

(Ed. note: Rumor has it that Coulter’s next book will be entitled “Kneepads and Vodka Gimlets: How to Shtup A Liberal And Still Manage To Respect Yourself In The Morning”)

I found myself wondering how in the hell a troll like Ann Coulter could have written four New York Times bestsellers, but then I realized that this is a nation that prefers reacting to pondering. How else do you explain, Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Fox News Channel? Thinking only gives us a collective headache. It’s so much easier when we can react emotionally by demonizing those we disagree with. Blaming Liberals for all of this nation’s problems also means that we don’t have to take ownership or responsiblity.

It’s true; you will never go broke underestimating the taste (and, apparently, the intelligence) of the American public…never mind their willingness to react rather than think. If you happen to believe that Ronald Reagan represented the nadir of American political philosophy, you will no doubt love “Godless”. If you like your politics like you enjoy insulting and demeaning your adversaries, I’d beat the rush and just order your copy now.

Of course, if this is the future of our democracy, there is no hope that we as a country will EVER be able to find something- anything- resembling middle ground. If public opinion is to be forged by those who prefer anger and reaction to reflection and sober consideration, then we really are being ruled by the lowest common denominator.

It would seem the Devil wears a cocktail dress at 7 a.m..
