No, you just cannot make this stuff up....

The iPod that let’s you roll with it

It gives a completely new meaning to the phrase ‘rock ‘n’ roll’. For boffins have invented a cutting-edge gadget combining a portable music player and a toilet paper dispenser. The state-of-the-art device - called an iCarta - makes it easier for people to listen to beats while using the bathroom. It is designed, according to the US manufacturers, to “enhance your experience in the smallest room”.

it.jpgStill looking for that perfect gift for Father’s Day? Don’t want to get Dad another tie or another dinner at Outback? Well, here’s something I’ll guarantee that no one else on your block has- yet. You can get iPod adapters for your car (I use an iTrip myself), for home radios and speaker systems…so why not for your bathroom? Why not, indeed….

At times I think that perhaps we live in a world with too many material conveniences and too many pointless consumer goods that shrewd marketing campaigns turn into gotta-have-or-I’ll-just-DIE items. I don’t know whether the iCarta will ultimately be a success or not (and I frankly don’t much care). What does fascinate me is the sheer size and scope of the secondary market that is devoted to the iPod. Every now and then I’ll go to an electronics store just to check out all of the goodies I can buy to go with my iPod. Perhaps the bathroom was the final frontier for the iPod, but it appears that the number of devices that you can attach to one is limited only by your imagination (and your budget).

We love capitalism, don’t we? Yes, we do….
