Oilers dominate Canes to force deciding Game 7
One win away (Edmonton Journal)
Canes limp back home: Not even the return of Erik Cole to the lineup can spark Carolina, which gets just 16 shots (Raleigh News-Observer)
Well, here we are. After 1312 games, tonight it’s for all the marbles, and for a hockey fan, it doesn’t get ANY better than this. Game #1313 of the National Hockey League season is Game Seven of the Stanley Cup finals…AND it’s in the same building where, six years ago, She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities and I saw these same two teams play. Of course, it was a regular season game, and both teams were undeniably else who was horrible back then. There is no way we or anyone who was there that cold March North Carolina night could have known what lay in store for the Hurricanes and Oilers six years down the road.
It’s not very often hockey fans get to see a game like this- one game, nothing held back, winner gets to skate with the Cup. A week ago, who would have thought that Game Seven was on the horizon? After Game Two, with Carolina up 2-0 and seemingly having their way with the Oilers, it looked as if it was going to be a very short series. Even up 3-1 and coming back home for Game 5, Edmonton didn’t figure to have a realistice chance…and that’s why they play the games, eh?
She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities is excited only because it means no more hockey on TV after tonight…at least until early October. For me, today is the last day of Hockey season, and tomorrow is the first day of summer. Man, I hope the ‘Canes and Oilers go to four overtimes tonight….
GO WHALERS!!!
Game on, eh?
