Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Heat wave has senator sticking to beliefs

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #411: Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK)

Is U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, who believes that manmade global warming is “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people,” losing the public relations battle on that issue? The Oklahoma Republican and chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee concedes that those on the other side of the global warming debate have dominated the air waves lately, but he remains confident that his side will be proved right in the end.

Man, you just gotta love a Conservative Republican who’s not afraid to wear his ignorance and self-superiority on his sleeve. No, no pointy-headed intellectuals for Sen. Inhofe. No, sirree…. All Inhofe needs to know is what he believes, and he’ll find a way mold the available facts to fit those beliefs. Is it any wonder that Inhofe has been such a faithful foot soldier for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s agenda?

To Inhofe’s way of thinking, global warming is really just so much Liberal propaganda, designed to scare the American sheeple into more fuel-efficient vehicles and hurting the long term interests of multinational oil companies. If Inhofe can refute the existence of global warming, then why should we feel guilty about driving our 9MPG SUVs? Why should we worry about increasing emissions of greenhouse gases. Why should we worry about anything? ‘Cuz it’s all just a fabrication of the Liberal Media, whose ultimate goal is to put Al Gore in the White House.

Indeed, Inhofe insists that he feels even stronger about taking on what he sees as the current hysteria about global warming than he did several years ago when he first uttered that now-famous hoax statement.

In an interview, he heaped criticism on what he saw as the strategy used by those on the other side of the debate and offered a historical comparison.

“It kind of reminds…I could use the Third Reich, the big lie,” Inhofe said.

You know, Republicans are normally the ones invoking Godwin’s Law and complaining about the Nazi analogies. Now a Republican DUMB@$$ is freely employing Nazi imagery and comparisons…but it’s OK, because he’s a Republican. Apparently, any and all rhetorical weapons are in play when you’re a Conservative. It’s only the Libruls that have to watch their step and avoid invoking any sort of Nazi imagery or references.

“You say something over and over and over and over again, and people will believe it, and that’s their strategy.”

Hmm…this sounds suspsicious like another Nazi propaganda tool- Josef Goebbel’s Big Lie. Oddly enough, it’s a tactic freely and often employed by Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader and his merry band of thugs. Interesting that it’s OK to use this tactic when you’re a Republican, but man, you can bet you sweet @$$ that if a Democrat had done the same thing, the hue and cry, the paroxysms of righteous indignation would be heard from here to Berchtesgarten.

As for anyone trying to use the current heat wave to bolster the case, he said even those on the other side of the debate concede that no one should link a single weather event to climate change.

“A hot summer has nothing to do with global warming,” Inhofe said. “Let’s keep in mind it was just three weeks ago that people were saying, ‘Wait a minute; it is unusually cool.”’

Of course, on this point Inhofe may well be correct. While the anecdotal evidence certainly comes down on the side of global warming, it is certainly possible that this summer is just a random example of Mother Nature have some gun at our expense. Nonetheless, does this mean that we should just go ahead and ignore the evidence of what pollution does to the ozone layer, and what a depleted ozone layer means to the Earth? Do we just keep on keeping on as we have been, with nary a care in the world nor with any efforts made to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases? Well, I probably don’t need to tell you How Sen. DUMB@$$ Inhofe would answer that question.

He blames the media for handing over an unfair amount of air time and coverage to the side that pushes the claim that links man to climate change.

“I have asked several of them,” Inhofe said: ‘Name one time when an hour has been given to the other side of the issue.’ “

Hmm…perhaps the media isn’t acceding to your demand because this issue is about science, not ideology? Besides, isn’t that what you have Fox News Channel for??

While declining to watch either the Gore movie or the Brokaw documentary, the senator said he armed himself with the statements used in both.

“I know the text, and I know they are using old stuff that has been totally discredited,” Inhofe said. “Everything on which they based their story, in terms of the facts, has been refuted scientifically.”

Right; I haven’t seen either movie, but I know exactly what they’re about…and they’re total crap. Of course, if you’re a Republican, you already know the truth, so why should you have to waste a couple hours of your life seeing a movie made by Al freakin’ Gore?

It’s so much easier when you can ignore the facts (or, better yet, create your own facts), lean on your ideology, and accuse your opponents of employing Nazi propaganda techniques. Yep, it sure beats the Hell out of honestly debating the issue on it’s merits, doesn’t it??
