Utah Police Officer Cited for DUI Resigns
The commander of the Utah Highway Patrol’s drunken driving unit has been cited for driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his cruiser into a concrete barrier, authorities said Thursday. Lt. Fred Swain veered off the shoulder of a highway in Draper early last Friday, overcorrected and hit the barrier that separates the lanes, Lt. Doug McCleve said.
Oh, the humanity…. After a long hard week of fighting drunk driving on Utah’s highways, Lt. Swain decided he deserved a few drinks to unwind. This is where the fun begins. By the end of the evening, the police officer in charge of combatting drunk driving in Utah was himself bouncing down the highway with a blood alcohol level of .12, significantly in excess of Utah’s .08 threshold.
Yep, nothing like setting a stellar example for the precious and highly impressionable children of Utah, eh? Hey, if drinking and driving is good enough for the police in charge of combatting drunk driving, then why shouldn’t it be good enough for the fine, God-fearing folks of the Great State of Utah?
Apparently, Utah is a “Do As I Say, Not As I Do” state….
