Another potential crisis averted

Peach crop woes, but not for Blue Bell

Although Texas peaches are in short supply this year (because of freezes and hail storms), there is a seasonal Texas product made with peaches that is as abundant as always: Blue Bell’s Peach and Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. Available in pints and half-gallons from April through September, this ice cream from the contented cows of Brenham doesn’t rely on Lone Star fruit. “The peach harvest in Texas is really not large enough to support large-scale processing operations,” says Bill Weiss, public relations manager for Blue Bell. “In order to secure the quantities needed for our ice cream, we get peaches from other parts of the country. During a time like this, with the local peach shortage, our supplies are generally not affected.” It may not dribble down your chin like the juice of a ripe Texas peach, but the ice cream might be the next best thing.

OK, y’all…you can rest easy. Yes, so not all of the peaches in your bowl of Peaches and Homemade Vanilla ice cream will be from Texas, but you’re probably not going to notice the difference. Before long, you’ll be able to clog your arteries and expand your waistline while you lose yourself in peach-flavored bliss.

I’m not quite sure how this happened, but in the nine years I’ve lived in Texas, I’ve become completely and totally devoted to Blue Bell Ice Cream. Rarely will I eat ice cream made by anyone else, and when I do I’m invariably disappointed. Two years ago, when I spent a month working in Miami, I was distressed to discover that Blue Bell ice cream was not available ANYWHERE In south Florida. Damn…how’s a man supposed to survive?

While I like Peaches and Homemade Vanilla well enough, I’m a Key Lime Pie guy myself. This works out well, since no one else in the family likes it…which only means MORE FOR ME!!! It’s like frozen crack. Here I am, trying to lose some weight, and there’s Blue Bell Key Lime Pie in the freezer. What’s a man with no discernible willpower to do??

Hello, my name is Jack, and I’m addicted to Key Lime Pie….
