Wolves in sheep's clothing

I’m a Republican, I Just Don’t Play One on TV

Reynolds airs his ads early

Rep. Tom Reynolds (R-N.Y.), who is in charge of keeping Congress in GOP hands this fall, surprised the political establishment yesterday by airing an early television advertisement that made no mention of his party affiliation.

Now here’s an interesting trend: Republicans running for office without identify their party affiliation. It’s almost as if they’re ashamed to be associated with Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader…and frankly, they should be. After five years of lies, deception, and Josef Goebbels-quality propaganda, what coattails do Republicans have to run on? War, lies, deceit, a policy that cares more for embryos than the lives of Americans…and the largest deficit in history (this after inheriting a budget that had been balanced by the Clinton Administration).

Now, with the mid-term elections only three-plus months away, Republicans are finally beginning to admit what they’ve probably known for months now: that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s coattails are going to be more like an albatross around the neck of virtually every Republican running for office. This is what happens when you take care of business as Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader and his collection of fellow Right-wing thugs have.

Reynolds, a 30-year veteran of upstate New York politics and a former GOP minority leader in the state Assembly, is one of several House GOP leaders who do not mention their party affiliation on their campaign websites. In ads posted on their sites, Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Republican Conference Chairwoman Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio) also do not state their Republican credentials.

Republican leaders have said they face a “headwind” in the sixth year of President Bush’s term because voters are frustrated by the war in Iraq and ever-rising gasoline prices. Because voters cannot direct their anger at Bush, many GOP congressional incumbents fear that voters might direct their frustration at them.

And why can’t voters direct their anger at Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader? No, they can’t vote him out of office, but you can bet that if a growing number of Americans demanded that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader be impeached, eventually even Congressional Republicans would recognize the handwriting and the wall. If the Democrats can take back Congress in November…well, I’ll just let my imagination wander. Hey, a man can dream, can’t he??

Not only does Reynolds edit out images of his GOP pledge pin - the message is all about how New York is “not conducive to creating jobs.” Who’s the governor of New York? Republican George Pataki. Who runs the New York state Senate? Republican Joe Bruno. Who runs the country? A Republican president and Congress. Damn it, it’s time to stand up and stop the Democrats from ruining everything

Yeah, we’ve sure managed to thoroughly f—k things up, haven’t we? Yeesh….! Get a grip, willya? You’ve controlled Congress since 1994 and the White House since 2001…and look what you’ve done to this country.

STILL GLAD YOU VOTED REPUBLICAN??
