DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #421: Sen. George Allen (R-VA)

Man, sometimes the DUMB@$$ AWARD almost presents itself, doesn’t it? How stupid can one Republican be? Apparently STUNNINGLY, UNBELIEVABLY stoopid…and a racist as well.

Imagine this scenario. You’re an incumbent Republican Senator, and you’re running for re-election in Virginia, a state with a not-exactly stellar record when it comes to race relations. So, you’re at a campaign function, and you spot the only non-White face in the crowd, who also happens to be working for your opponent. You know this to be true, because he’s introduced himself to you as working for his opponent. This should be your cue to be on your best behavior…’cuz Lord knows that the last thing you need is to say something stupid and to have it captured for posterity on video. Right? Or do you want to become the lead story on The Daily Show?

Of course, if you had half a brain, you wouldn’t be George Allen, whose barely camouflaged racism and rampant, stunning ignorance is truly impressive for a man in his position. While this whole episode (and to the three of you who HAVEN’T seen the video, what planet have you been on?) ranks highly on the comic relief scale, you have to wonder just what in the Hell the people of Virginia see in this maroon. Yes, Virginia is one of the few places more Conservative than Texas, which I suppose accounts for Allen’s ascension to power. After all, voting Republican IS easier than thinking, eh? And only a fool could openly vote for George Allen.

For some folks, celebrating Allen’s DUMB@$$ AWARD is becoming a cottage industry…and why not? If you’re not willing to laugh at Allen, you probably agree with him, which would make you…well, a DUMB@$$, too. I highly recommend Jon Stewart and Rob Cordry riffing on Allen. Yeah, it’s silly and it’s scatological, but it’s damn funny….
