Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Rep. Harris: Church-state separation ‘a lie’

Katherine Harris for President!

Katherine Harris: Some of My Best Friends Are Hell-Bound

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #430: Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL)

MIAMI, Florida (AP) — U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is “a lie” and God and the nation’s founding fathers did not intend the country be “a nation of secular laws.” The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will “legislate sin,” including abortion and gay marriage.

OK, I’ve held off long enough. I don’t really know why, but perhaps I was thinking that somehow, Katherine Harris would recognize what a complete and total wackjob she it. Clearly, that’s not even a remote possibility. This woman is completely, totally bat-shit crazy, and the hierarchy of the Florida GOP seems to regard herself as the political equivalent of a social disease. The best part is that Harris seems to be absolutely oblivious to the reality of her situation. This, of course, gives those of us who exist to ridicule hateful Republican morons a reason to live.

I mean, where do you begin with a woman who has proven her willingness to do whatever it takes to advance her political prospects? Rep. Cruella DeVille Harris is probably the single biggest reason Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader was able to steal Florida and with it the 2000 Presidential election. As Florida’s Secretary of State, she helped ensure that Florida landed in Bush’s column. The question wasn’t IF she would be rewarded, it was WHEN. As a Congresswoman, her ineptitude has gone relatively unnoticed and the GOP has been able to sweep her under the rug for the most part. Now that she is running for one of Florida’s US Senate seats, though, there is no hiding the reality that Katherine Harris is a certifiable, world-class, Grade A DUMB@$$.

And now she’s pandering to the Religious Right. This is bound to turn into a comedy gold mine….

Separation of church and state is “a lie we have been told,” Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is “wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers.”

“If you’re not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin,” Harris said.

Her comments drew criticism, including some from fellow Republicans, who called them offensive and not representative of the party.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Florida, who is Jewish, told the Orlando Sentinel that she was “disgusted” by the comments.

Harris’ campaign released a statement Saturday saying she had been “speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government.”

The comments reflected “her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values,” the statement said, adding that Harris had previously supported pro-Israel legislation and legislation recognizing the Holocaust.

And better yet, the comments show the Rep. Cruella DeVille Harris has no problem with offending folks wholesale if it gets her a few more votes in November. This is what DUMB@$$ES do, eh?

State GOP leaders — including Gov. Jeb Bush — don’t think she can win against Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in November. Fundraising has lagged, frustrated campaign workers have defected in droves and the issues have been overshadowed by news of her dealings with a corrupt defense contractor who gave her $32,000 in illegal campaign contributions.

Clueless, ignorant as the day is long, AND corrupt. Harris is the DUMB@$$ trifecta, a politician so clueless, so ignorant, and so completely out of touch with reality that she cannot recognize when she’s crossed the line. Hell, Harris doesn’t even know that there IS a line.

Is it any wonder that the Florida GOP wants nothing to do with her? That they’re treating her like the crazy aunt tied up in the basement? They seem to have recognized what Harris seems incapable of: that given her personality, her ethical shortcomings, and her willingness to openly pander to the Rabid Religious Right, there is little chance that Harris can generate enough positive spin to defeat incumbent Bill Nelson. Realistically, Harris has about as much chance of defeating Nelson as I do of being elected Queen of England. That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the madness in the meantime, eh?
