Fox News Guest Claims ‘It’s Time To Have A Muslims Check-Point Line In American Airports’
Rep. Peter King (R-NY) proposes ethnic and religious profiling
I suppose it was just a matter of time before the Republican Noise Machine got into the business of demanding racial, ethnic, and religious profiling at American airports. After all, it’s not like Americans are terrorists, right? Well, OK…except for Paul HIll, Terry Nichols, Eric Rudolph, Ted Kaczynski, Eric Harris, Dylan Kleibold, and Timothy McVeigh, it’s not like Americans are terrorists…right?
The problem is that while profiling may seem like a sensible and logical idea, as presented by the Right it represents merely another way to justify their hatred towards Those Who Don’t Think, Believe, Act, or Look Like Us. It’s easy to hate swarthy men with beards and look foreign. They’re not “one of us”, are they? And they probably hate America. We should be doing what British security does and give extra scrutiny and attention to Those Who Don’t Think, Believe, Act, or Look Like Us. Anyone who has ever gone through Customs in London’s Heathrow Airport will know what I’m talking about.
Of course, with the midterm elections less than three months off, Republicans and their apologists know that they have to find SOMETHING to create enough fear in the American Sheeple to convince them to vote Republican. In their minds, nothing succeeds like painting nasty pictures of Those Who Don’t Think, Believe, Act, or Look Like Us. And we all know that only Republicans can adequately protect us from the threat of another 9.11…right?
To effectively sell their “product”- which boils down to fear, ignorance, and reaction- count on Republicans to cleverly package the ugliness they’re peddling. In fact, it’s already begun. Instead of talking about “racial profiling”, they’ve repackaged the concept and are now selling it as “criminal profiling”. EVERYONE hates criminals, right? And who could possibly object to profiling criminals?
There’s one very big problem with “criminal profiling”, though. Who are the “criminals”…and who determines what defines a “criminal”? Is it someone who actually HAS a criminal record, someone who might for some reason actually commit a crime (and how do you figure THAT out?), or Those Who Don’t Think, Believe, Act, or Look Like Us…like swarthy men with beards, f’rinstance?
If you don’t think about it long enough, hatred and discrimination begin to sound pretty good. After all, it wasn’t 19 Boy Scouts that pulled off the 9.11 attacks, was it? And it wasn’t the Southern Baptists holed up in the mountains of Afghanistan, promsing to rain death and destruction upon the American infidels…right?
Of course, before we begin ANY sort of racial, ethnic, or religious profiling, there are a few things you should keep in mind:
The Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed by Timothy McVeigh (a White Christian).
The Columbine massacre was committed by Eric Harris and Dylan Kleibold (both White Christians).
The Birmingham abortion clinic and Atlanta Olympic Park bombings were committed by Eric Rudolph (A White Christian).
I could go on, but do I really need to? No, I don’t think I do.
Perhaps it’s time we engaged in some “Republican profiling”, eh??
