So much for the idea of a loving, forgiving, and compassionate God, eh?

Who has killed more, Satan or God?

In a previous post, I counted the number of people that were killed by the God in the Bible. I came up with 2,128,335, which, of course, greatly underestimates God’s total death toll, since it only includes those killings for which specific numbers are given. No attempt was made to include the victims of Noah’s flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the many plagues, famines, fiery serpents, etc., with which the good book is filled. Still, 2 million is a respectable number even for world class killers. But how does this compare with Satan? How many did he kill in the Bible?

locknload.jpgNow here’s a question I’d never considered. Being a Buddhist, I don’t read the Bible, though I was often force-fed Scripture as a child. One thing I did pick up at a very early age was that, if you compare the Old and New Testaments…well, to be charitable, God’s a bit on the violently schizophrenic side. The Bible is not a children’s tale of peace and love, not by a long shot. No, God apparently has a mean streak a mile wide, and the Man kicks some serious ass.

Hey, I suppose this would explain the Crusades, though….

If you consider that God is representative of all that is Good, and that Satan is representative of all that is Evil, you might think that Satan is responsible for killing more people throughout the Bible. Au contraire, mon ami…the body count’s very lopsided, but not in the direction you might think. Using the calculations and research of Steve Wells, who obviously devoted a LOT more effort, diligence, and patience to this project than I ever would have, this is total body count:

God…2,128,345+
Satan…10

Chew on that when you’re sitting in church on Sunday….
