Presenting: Slate’s Stupidest Idea Since “The Zeitgeist Checklist”
The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adaptation
Say hello to “9.11: The Comic Book”. If there is a more effective and insulting way to trivialize and commercialize one of the worst days in our nation’s history, I don’t know what it could be. This could only fairly be categorized as yet another attempt to cater to the lowest common denominator, to tell the story of 9.11 to Americans too stupid and/or lazy to read the 9.11 Report for themselves. Three thousand Americans died, thousands more were injured…and you want to turn it into a comic book?
No matter how well-intentioned this effort may be, I can think of nothing good that can come from turning the story of 9.11 into the equivalent of a comic book. This “totally useful and non-exploitative 5-year anniversary cash-in” will no no doubt help to bring the story of 9.11 to those Americans so lazy and ignorant that their reading material rarely extends beyond the menu at a Burger King. (Whoa, DUDE! When did this happen??)
Just when I begin to think that we really can’t sink any lower, I’m reminded all over again that the American cultural barrel really doesn’t have a bottom….
