After Ney Admits To Crimes, Boehner Refuses To Call For His Resignation
[O]n Fox News Sunday, House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) was asked whether Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH) should step down from Congress. Ney pled guilty last week to federal corruption charges, admitting to prosecutors that “he had accepted tens of thousands of dollars in illegal favors from Abramoff and from a Syrian businessman nicknamed ‘the Fat Man.’”….Apparently, in Boehner’s mind, this doesn’t necessarily disqualify you from serving in Congress. Boehner twice refused to answer whether Ney should step down, saying only that it was a decision Ney should make for himself.
Here’s something that you can take to the bank: if Bob Ney were a Democrat, John Boehner and every other Congressional Republican would be having fits of apoplexy, so incensed they would be that a criminal and corrupt politician is in their midst.
Of course, Bob Ney isn’t a Democrat. He’s a Republican…and those holier-than-thou Republicans? Well, you could grow old waiting for them to voice anything even close to displeasure that Ney, one of their own, is a corrupt greedhead who’s about to become someone’s girlfriend in a federal lockup. Man, can’t you just feel the hypocrisy? (Old joke: What’s the difference between George W. Bush and Rush Limbaugh? One’s a suspected liar; the other’s convicted.)
You’d think that John Boehner, as House Majority Leader, would be wanting his GOP members to set a tone of responsibility and integrity. Yeah, right; and how many times have you heard the words “integrity” and “Congressional Republican” used in the same sentence? No doubt it’s been awhile, because Boehner’s leadership when it comes to Republican ethics (an oxymoron if ever there was one) has been non-existent, to say the least.
THIS is leadership in action? THIS is a political leader willing to model and demand integrity from the members of his caucus? Nah, John Boehner’s a hypocrite and a DUMB@$$; that he’s a Republican almost goes without saying.
