DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #449: Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL)

Maf54: Do I make you a little horny?
Teen: A little.
Maf54: Cool.

Welcome to today’s DUMB@$$ “two-fer”, which comes straight to us from the “hiding in plain sight” file. Florida Republican Congressman Mark Foley, the co-chair of the House Missing & Exploited Children Caucus, resigned yesterday after proving that irony is not dead. Foley flushed his career down the toilet in exchange for some sexually suggestive emails he exchanged with underaged former male Congressional pages. Now Republicans are falling all over themselves wondering how in the Hell this sort of thing could have happened, but curiously absent is any sense of outrage over what one of their own has confessed to.

Just imagine the paroxysms of righteous indignation that would be flowing from the Right if Foley was a Democrat. These hypocrites would be foaming at the mouth as they fell over themselves in their efforts to brand Democrats as the party of child molesters and sexual perversions unimaginable. As it is, the only thing now emanating from Republicans is the dull roar of complete radio silenace as they now no doubt hope that if they keep their mouths shut that the American sheeple will quickly forget about Mark Foley and his predilection for young boys.

Foley, on the other hand, is a DUMB@$$ for the obvious reason that his postion on the Missing & Explotited Children’s Caucus was supposed to be used to PROTECT children…NOT as a means to MEET and exploit them for his own sexual gratification. Of course, since he’s a Republican, he can count on his former colleagues to do their level best to make certain that he quickly and quietly disappears into the political sunset.

WASHINGTON - (AP) — Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., resigned from Congress on Friday, effective immediately, in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page.

”I am deeply sorry and I apologize for letting down my family and the people of Florida I have had the privilege to represent,” he said in a statement issued by his office.

The two-sentence statement did not refer to the e-mails and gave no reason for Foley’s decision to abruptly abandon a flourishing career in Congress.

Foley, 52, had been a shoo-in for a new term until the e-mail correspondence surfaced in recent days.

Yes, denial is more than a river in Egypt, but not even a Republican Congressional stalwart can avoid the consequences of soliciting underage boys for sex. And even if he wan’t looking for sexual encounters, the contents of the emails and IMs were, at the very least, highly inappropriate and unbecoming of a member of Congress. That he was the co-chair of the Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus only adds to the sad reality that Foley is a sexual predator who apparently just happened to get caught before he could turn his fantasies into reality.

Do you really need yet another reason to vote Democratic in November?
