President Politicizing National Security as Election Day Nears
Since the President unveiled his “news” on terrorism this week, I’ve become angrier and angrier. The timing is cynical and he has selectively declassified sensitive intelligence — again — in order to persuade voters that his Administration owns this issue and to change the subject from the deteriorating situation in Iraq. I don’t buy it - and I bet you don’t either. My guess is that most voters won’t buy it.
Over the past week or so, we’ve seen the toppling of a couple of long-standing myths that have been perpetuated by Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader and his merry band of apologists since 9.11:
- Iraq in fact had nothing to do with 9.11, and
- There were indeed secret prisons where “high value” terrorists were questioned safely away from the nasty oversight of the American legal system. (Torture? America doesn’t torture. We forcefully persuade….)
So what’s next? The war in Iraq was, and is, all about oil? Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader really does depend on Karl Rove to do his dirty work? Or that He really does want to create a theocracy and install himself as Fuhrer Leader-for-Life?
What I find stunning is that both of these revelations is that, if they had come from a Democratic President, the resultwould have been an almost unprecedented and unimaginable weeping and gnashing of teeth from the Right (Impeach!! Liar!!). The talking heads of Right-wing Talk Radio would have been positively foaming at the mouth, demanding a Deomcrat’s header on a platter. However, because Our Glorious and Benevolent (and Conservative Republican) Leader inadvertently let the truth slip out, the media has uttered nary a peep about what should by all rights be an absolute scandal. Here we have absolute, ironclad proof that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader has repeated lied to us over the past five years (he essentially admitted as much)…all while the Mainstream Media falls all over itself maintaining it’s vow of silence when it comes to holding this Administration accountable.
