Democrats warn Chavez: Don’t bash Bush
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Two of President Bush’s staunchest domestic critics leapt to his defense Thursday, a day after one of his fiercest foreign foes called him “the devil” in a scorching speech before the United Nations….”You don’t come into my country; you don’t come into my congressional district and you don’t condemn my president,” Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York, scolded Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez….House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California, was blunt in her criticism of the Venezuelan leader. “He is an everyday thug,” she said.
How strange is this? Nancy Pelosi and Charles Rangel sticking up for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader. Man, if I didn’t know better, I’d say that Hell has a thin sheen of ice over it right about now.
So former DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener Hugo Chavez went all Pat Robertson on Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader during his speech to the United Nations General Assembly. Most of us had a giggle and passed it off as the rants of a barely lucid despot who thinks he’s a lot more important and gifted than he actually is.
Charles Rangel is the same politician who once said that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader pretty much put the lie to the myth of White supremacy. And yet there he was, sticking up for little brother, as was Nancy Pelosi, who isn’t exactly the Chairwoman of Democrats for Bush, either. Talk about Bad Political Theater, eh? NOBODY,and I mean NOBODY picks on our little brother. Yeah, he’s an idiot, and a despot, and a liar, but he’s family…and to get through him you’re going to have to go through me.
While I’m not at all certain I’d be defending Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader under ANY circumstances, I’m impressed and gratified that at least a couple high-profile Democrats can demonstrate that there are time when partisan politics should take a back seat. The reality is that, Democrat or Republican, we’re first and foremost Americans. Yes, we have some significant differences, but you don’t come into our house and use Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader for cheap laughs. That’s our perogative.
Memo to Hugo Chavez: if you want to stay in Venezuela and give a speech accusing Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader of sexually molesting young children, knock yourself out. What you can NOT do is to come to our country and take advantage of our hospitality to score cheap political points. When you a guest of the United States, we expect you to treat us and our political system with something resembling respect. This isn’t to say that you can’t voice honest and legitimate disagreements; we expect that. Just don’t come into our house and pull a Chavez. You’re not family, and we don’t appreciate you taking advantage of our hospitality.
Play nice or go home. We don’t need you or want you here if you’re going to act like some sort of self-righteous buffoon.
