There will always be debates about Truth. Though in a perfect world Truth would be absolute, the reality is that Truth often depends on which side of the ideological fence one happens to occupy. Even keeping this fact in mind, there should be some aspects of American life not subject to ideological interpretation. Some stories deserve and need to be told as they really happened…or they just shouldn’t be told at all.
9.11 is one of those stories that just simply shouldn’t be exploited for partisan gain…and yet that appears to be exactly what ABC is about to do. Their “docudrama” (not even a dcoumentary…this is a piece of pure fiction written by an unabashed Conservative activist), The Path to 9/11 is a fictionalized account of the events leading up to the 9/11 attacks. Of course, no one should be surprised that a major media outlet is peddling Right-wing propaganda (WHAT LIBERAL MEDIA??), but twisting facts and rewriting history to smear Bill Clinton while portraying Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader in a heroic light is just plain WRONG.
No, I have not seen The Path to 9/11, nor do I have any intention of watching it when (or if) it’s broadcast. I don’t traffic in Right-wing propaganda…and you shouldn’t be, either. What I am particularly incensed about, however, is that this “docuwhitewash” is being marketed to schoolchildren as historically accurate. It’s despicable enough when you’re peddling this propaganda to the American sheeple, but when you’re using it to indoctrinate our children…well, is ABC totally devoid of shame? Apparently so.
I’m not normally so adamantly opposed to a television show. People deserve to be able to recognize propaganda for themselves, and if they can’t (and if they swallow it wholesale)…well, that would go a long way toward explaining Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader, wouldn’t it? There are things that should and must be sacrosanct, and 9.11 is at the top of that list. Three thousands Americans didn’t die so Right-wing Social Conservatives could consolidate their rule. And ABC should not be trying to generate a ratings bonanza by airing such naked, unvarnished propaganda.
I’ve been pleased to finally see so many on the Left finally come together to scream “ENOUGH”. I was beginning to wonder if those of us who call ourselves Democrats had been completely neutered. Thankfully, it appears that there’s still some fight in this dog…and there’s still time to ask ABC to do the right thing and pull The Path to 9/11. Do it now.
