Whatever it takes to scare the American Sheeple into voting Republican

PFA Launches Issue Advocacy Effort on Security

Press Release - September 7, 2006: Progress for America (PFA) today began an issue advocacy effort that includes television advertising on national cable and on broadcast in Missouri, placing a sharp focus on the War on Terror. The first flight of ads began today and runs through next week.

No, there is no candidate or political party mentioned in this ad. Nonetheless, there should be no doubt which party this ad is vehemently supporting. There should also be no doubt as to the intent of this ad. Watching this ad should scare you into recognizing that you just don’t change horses in the middle of an Apocalypse.

THESE. PEOPLE. WANT. TO. KILL. US.

MANY SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN THE EVIL THAT HAPPENED ONLY FIVE YEARS AGO.

Uh, yeah…I seem to vaguely recall something happening on 9.11.01…. Wait, wait…don’t tell me….

I mean, really…this is hardly an ad designed to support Democrats. It’s a cynical attempt to strike fear into the heart of the American sheeple five years after 9.11…and it’s typical of what we’ll be hearing from the GOP and their proxies over the next few weeks. This time around, Republicans have nothing to offer but fear and loathing. It’s not as if they can run on their record, and it’s not as if Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader has any coattails to offer. In fact, most Republican candidates this fall are treating Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader as if he’s a political leper. All they really have going for them is fear- fear of terror, fear of change, fear of…well, just about anything they can pin on Democrats.

THIS is leadership? THIS is vision? THIS is the America we want to live in?

From where I sit, the choice is a surprisingly simple one. Are we OK with living in fear? Are we going to allow the fear of terrorism to rule our lives? Are we going to allow Republicans to use that fear in order to gradually chip away at our rights and liberties? If you want to continue living paralyzed in fear, then go ahead and vote Republican. The past five years have been a mere taste of what’s to come under continued Republican hegemony, and you’ll probably like what they have in store for us. (Freedom of speech? We don’t need no stinkin’ freedom of speech….)

If you want our government to spend less time and effort trying to keep us in a perpetual state of almost-pissing-in-our-pants fear, then you’re going to want to vote Democratic for a change. I’m not going to tell you that Democrats will ensure that another 9.11 won’t happen. What I am going to tell you is that Democrats will actually focus on security and governing, instead of the GOP strategy of enriching themselves, their rich friends, all while decimating protections for the environment, the poor and the elderly.

Or perhaps you enjoy fear-mongering, pandering, and religious zealotry?

Amusingly, this ad was produced by a group with the oxymoronic name of “Progress for America”. I suppose that depends on what your definition of “progress” is, eh? If you idea of “progress” is fear, loathing, and the demonization of those who don’t unquestioningly support Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader…well, you’ll be voting Republican anyway. Those of us who believe that we deserve better will be doing what we can to support Democratic candidate. BECAUSE WE DO DESERVE BETTER.
