And let's give a hearty Pittsburgh welcome to....

Jeb Bush gets rude welcome: Police disperse angry protesters in Downtown T-station

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, in town for a fund-raiser for Sen. Rick Santorum, had a close encounter with a large group of anti-Republican protesters as he was making his way to the Duquesne Club, Downtown. It was about 4:15 yesterday when Mr. Bush met up with the protesters near the corner of Liberty and Sixth avenues. The protesters were marching to join other pickets already gathered in front of the exclusive club, a little more than a block away at 325 Sixth Ave….As a precaution, the governor was ushered into a T-station supply closet and stayed there until the crowd left….”It was a very tense situation. They were very close to the governor and shouting on top of him.”

Gee, d’ya think that there might be a message here that Republicans might want to heed? Or do you think that they’ll just pass this incident off as the product of a few over-hyped gay activists looking to force the Homosexal Agenda on us Good, God-fearing Americans?

Gee…I don’t know. What do you think?? ;p)

While I’m not one to advocate violent insurrection (though it’s always worked for me), to pass these protesters off as just a bunch of clueless rabble-rousers would be to completely miss the point. There is a LOT of anger outside the Beltway, and the Mark Foley scandal may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. “Enough is enough” seems to be the message out here in the Provinces, though Republicans still seem to be in denial. “Enough is enough”, indeed. Enough corruption. Enough war. Enough concern about political self-preservation. ENOUGH.

Republicans have spent the past 12 years forcing their narrow agenda down our throats. Through their arrogance and self-superiority as “God’s Own Party” they have, through their control of Congress and the White House (amazing what you can do when you can steal a couple of Presidential elections, isn’t it??), worked to achieve their unstated goal of turning American into a Christian theocracy. 9.11 must have felt Heaven-sent to these dogmatic theocrats; now they had a one-size-fits-all reason to justify the pursuit of their narrow fear- and hatred-based agenda…and anyone who disagreed could be smeared as unpatriotic and anti-American.

It’s taken twelve years, but the assault on this country that began with Newt Gingrich’s Contract On With America may finally be coming to an end. It’s not that Democrats will ride on on their white horses to save the day, but if they can reverse even a few of the ignorant, mean-spirited, and self-interested policies (like the endless, pointless war in Iraq) in the short term, then perhaps we can get this country to travelling on the right path again.

And then we can work on impeaching the murdering, lying bastard in the White House….
