Snow on Foley Scandal: ‘Simply Naughty Emails’

White House downplays Foley scandal as “simply naughty emails”

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #451: Tony Snow

Soledad O’Brien asked Tony Snow why “any communication between a 16-year-old and a congressman” didn’t “raise red flags — major, massive red flags” with Speaker Dennis Hastert and others who have known about the communications for months. Snow responded, “” hate to tell you, but it’s not always pretty up there on Capitol Hill. And there have been other scandals, as you know, that have been more than simply naughty e-mails.”

My God…is there a more arrogant, dismissive, and self-superior Republican apologist than Tony Snow? Yes, I realize that his job as Press Secretary involves engaging in spin the likes of which would make mere mortals toss their cookes early and often. And I realize that he’is charged with making the President look like the human reincarnation of Ronald Reagan. I even realize that he’s an arrogant, self-rghteous SOB, which is basically the persona he projected during his time on Fox News Channel prior to coming to the White House. What I didn’t realize was the rhetorical lengths to which Snow will go in his shameless efforts to protect Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader and all things Republican.

I’m not at all surprised that Snow so arrogantly dismisses Foley’s perversions and the Republican Congressional leadership’s covering it up as “simply naughty emails.” A good portion of these “naughty emails” were attempts to solicit sexual contact with underage males. This would seem to go well beyond the benign realm of mere “naughty emails” and straight into the domain of criminal behavior.

One thing is certain, though: you can bet that if Mark Foley was a Democrat, Tony Snow would be leading the charge of righteous indignation demanding that Foley’s head be installed on a pike and displayed in the village square. Hypocritical? Blindly and arrogantly partisan? Sure, but what else would you expect from a DUMB@$$?
