Bush: No Iraq Pull Out Until ‘Mission is Complete’

“Retreating from Iraq would allow the terrorists to gain a new safe haven from which to launch new attacks on America. Retreating from Iraq would dishonor the men and women who have given their lives in that country, and mean their sacrifice has been in vain. And retreating from Iraq would embolden the terrorists, and make our country, our friends, and our allies more vulnerable to new attacks.”

It’s been said that the definition of insanity is the repetition of the same action while continuing to expect different results. If this is true, and I believe it is, then what’s happening in Iraq can only be described as insanity. The problem is that the lunatic in charge of the asylum, Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader, is effectively playing Russian Roulette with the lives of American servicemen and women. These brave souls are being ordered to pursue a mission with no effective planning, no rationale, no foreseeable end in sight, and, worst of all, no hope of victory- if you define “victory” as defeating the enemy on the battlefield.

The quote above only serves to indicate that even though Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader has already admitted that there was no connection between Iraq and 9.11, his policy still uses that fallacy as its foundation. No, there was no connection between Iraq and 9.11, but 9.11 was the justification used to invade Iraq. Even though the argument has now morphed into “Iraq is the central front in the war against terrorism”, the lie and the accompnaying propaganda is still the same…and almost 3000 Americans have given their lives in the service of this lie.

Bill Clinton gets his helmet polished by a young female intern and he gets impeached by Republicans. Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader sends an ever-increasing number of Americans to their death in service of his lies and propaganda, and Republicans treat him like some sort of hero. And you wonder why I’m angry….

I try very hard not to hate. It’s an ugly, unproductive emotion that ultimately hurts only the hater. I’ve got to tell you, though, that I will openly and honestly admit to a visceral hatred of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader. I hate his arrogance, his willingness to countenance lies, propaganda, and the deaths of our sons and daughters in the service of his dissembling and perfidy. I hate his hypocrisy, how he rode into power claiming he would be a uniter and not a divider. I hate how he used 9.11 as a tool to further polarize American, to stifle dissent and begin a steady and inexorable attack on our civil liberties. I hate him for what he has done to this country in the name of making us safe from the threat of terrorism. The man is Evil Incarnate, pure and simple.

White House press secretary Tony Snow said yesterday that the meeting did not herald a major change in strategy and had been planned weeks ago. But it came amid growing concern among both Republican and Democratic lawmakers about the administration’s Iraq plan, with some predicting that upcoming elections and the apparent lack of progress on the ground would soon force the Bush administration to abandon its open-ended support of the war.

Bush gave no indication of that today, even though he acknowledged that the level of violence is increasing. “Our goal is clear and unchanging: Our goal is victory,” he said. “What is changing are the tactics we use to achieve that goal. Our commanders on the ground are constantly adjusting their approach to stay ahead of the enemy, particularly in Baghdad.”

Does changing tactics really matter when you’re chasing ghosts? At what point do we admit to what appears to be the reality on the ground and bring our men and women home? Yes, we broke Iraq, but there appears to be no fixing the country now- at least not through anything the US can do. Yes, Saddam Hussein is a bad man, and both Iraq and the world are better off without him. Nonetheless, when one steps back and honestly assesses the totality of our effort in Iraq, it’s a clusterf—k. No direction, no strategy, no exit plan…only a steady supply of soldiers to be fed into the bloody maw that is Iraq and shipped home in flag-draped boxes.

Diane Farrell, a Democratic candidate for Congress who gave her party’s national radio response to Bush today, said, “To be blunt, the president and the Republican Congress have been wrong on Iraq and wrong to keep their failed strategy. An arbitrary departure date could be dangerous, but real goals for the new Iraqi government and its army are necessary.”

Farrell, who is running against Rep. Chris Shays in Connecticut, said Democrats will hold Bush accountable for the war in Iraq if they gain control of either the Senate or House in mid-term elections next month, news services reported. She also urged Bush to fire Rumsfeld.

An open-ended engagement in Iraq only guarantees that more young Americans will die for no discernible reason. I will brook no one questioning my patriotism or my support of our men and women in uniform. Let’s be realistic, though. How is anything happening in Iraq a threat to the Homeland? And if there is a threat, shouldn’t Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader be held accountable for the creation of said threat?

If Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader had truly been serious about prosecuting the war against terrorism, he would have gone whole hog into Afghanistan. Instead, he authorized a token invasion of Afghanistan and then orders a wholesale invasion and continuing occupation of Iraq, which harbored no appreciable terrorist threat prior to the invasion.

“Mission Accomplished?” Not bloody likely….

NOW CAN WE IMPEACH THE LYING, MURDERING BASTARD??
