Principled leadership in action...Cleanup!! Aisle Five!!

New Foley Instant Messages; Had Internet Sex While Awaiting House Vote

Former Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) interrupted a vote on the floor of the House in 2003 to engage in Internet sex with a high school student who had served as a congressional page, according to new Internet instant messages provided to ABC News by former pages. ABC News now has obtained 52 separate instant message exchanges, which former pages say were sent by Foley, using the screen name Maf54, to two different boys under the age of 18.

Man, is this some sick, twisted stuff or what?? Taking care of the People’s business was never supposed to be like this….

At the core of this story is just another sad, sick pedophile looking to exploit children for his own sexual gratification. What makes it worse is that it’s beginning to look as if the Congressional Republican leadership enabled Mark Foley’s behavior in an effort to keep things under wraps until after the midterm election (a la the Catholic Church, who would have just transferred him to another parish). After all, when you get right down to it, it’s all about winning; it’s about political power. Yes, it’s undoubtedly a whole lot easier to deal with the fallout from a scandal after you’ve maintained control of Congress…it’s not like you can be un-elected.

Even once the shit began to hit the fan, Foley’s office was attempting to mitigate damage and cover up the ugly truth, trying to cut a deal with ABC’s Brian Ross to keep the really nasty stuff under wraps. Ross, thankfully, was smart enough to know that he had a story that just couldn’t be suppressed. Truth tends to be like that.

This isn’t to say, though, that there aren’t media outlets who aren’t willing to be co-opted in order to protect a good, God-fearing pedophile Republican. Fox News Channel, the Miami Herald, and the St. Petersburg Times all had at least the beginnings of this story A YEAR AGO, but chose to sit on it. Yes, we can (and should) demand the resignation of key members of the Republican Congressional leadership, but who’s going to hold these media outlets accountable? So much for journalistic integrity, eh? How much do you want to bet that if Foley were a Democrat, they would have roasted him long ago?

WHAT LIBERAL MEDIA??
