So much for setting a good example

President Celebrates National Character Week With Appearances For Bitch-Choker, Oldest Living Confederate Jew

Bush campaigns for two endangered Republicans

Do As I Proclaim, Not As I Do: Self-negating White House satire in two easy pieces!

Man, ya just gotta love Our Glorious and Benevolent leader, don’tcha? Here’s the Anointed One, the leader of God’s Own Party and the “blessed by the Almighty” leader of this great nation and the entire Free World once again setting an example for all us heathen, self-absorbed, amoral reprobates. And those are just the Democrats (bada BING!!)

Character is all well and good, but it sure as hell isn’t going to raise any cash for Republicans, most of whom are desperately heading into the last desperate days of desperately futile campaigns.

Man, if you’re going to talk about character and morals, wouldn’t it be a good idea to at least get your own house in order before you peddle the virtues that you and those you surround yourself with clearly know NOTHING about? Right; just a few days after proclaiming this week as “National Character Counts Week” (but who’s counting?), he’s off raising campaign money for noted adulterer and mistress-strangler Don Sherwood and noted racist George Allen. Man, that there’s some fine character, isn’t it?

Yep, character counts, all right…just not for nearly as much as you might have previously thought.

Now, therefore, I, George W. Bush, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 15 through October 21, 2006, as National Character Counts Week. I call upon public officials, educators, librarians, parents, students, and all Americans to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs.

Sounds benign, doesn’t it? Who’s going to argue with the idea of promoting character? Well, except in this case what Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader is promoting is more akin to hypocrisy.

The president’s speaking at a fund-raiser for Virginia Senator George Allen in Richmond, and one for Pennsylvania Congressman Don Sherwood at Keystone College.

Allen’s been battling allegations he used racist language and liked Confederate symbols — after being caught on tape calling an opponent’s election worker “macaca.” In a recent poll, Allen and Democrat Jim Webb were neck-and-neck.

Meantime, Sherwood’s been in trouble since admitting a lengthy affair with a much younger woman — and settling a lawsuit claiming he choked her. In a heavily Republican district, a recent poll gave challenger Chris Carney an edge.

Of course, if you’re a Republican, racism, adultery, and assault & battery have nothing to do with character, do they?

Hypocrites, damn hypocrites, and Republicans….
