There comes a time when one needs to take a step back from the fray and take a mental health break. I’m at that point, so She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities and I will be in New York for a few days for some much-need R&R. I’ve never been into the city, so I’m excited about exploring someplace new. We’re spend the past few days watching the Ken Burns’ New York PBS miniseries, so now the History major in me is pretty excited. We’re planning on doing the usual touristy-type things: Ground Zero, Staten Island, a Rangers game, a Broadway show. For the next five days, I’m going to do my level best not to care: about politics, blogging, the Internet- ANY of it. I just want to have some fun and relax.
While I’m going to check out for a few days, I do have a couple of guest authors lined up who may fill in as the spirit moves them: my oldest stepson, Adam, and Vince Leibowitz, whose connections and insight into Texas politics I’ve always admired and envied.
Try not to miss me too much while I’m gone, but it really IS time for a break. This is the first trip we’ve taken that didn’t involve children since our honeymoon six years ago, and we deserve it. It’s time to have some fun. I’ll see you in a few days. ;p)

I'm having a bit of cognitive dissonance from seeing "the usual touristy things" and "Ground Zero" mentioned in the same context.
I hope you enjoy your trip!
You have, indeed, earned a break. Have fun in New York and try to stop by Gray's Papaya near 72nd and Broadway, best lunch deal in the city!
Have a nice trip Jack. But be careful -- I hear tell them folks up thar talks funni.
Enjoy your trip, Jack! I hope you like the new look of your digs when you get back. Sorry to pull a surprise Extreme Makeover on you!
James, I like the crisp appearance of your Extreme Makeover, but would greatly appreciate more width when composing comments.
Bob, I'll see what I can do. I'm not sure what the CSS code is doing to cause this (this design is modified from another design).
