Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Borat film ‘tricked’ poor village actors

‘Borat’ make benefit glorious box office results

‘Borat’ Wins Again: Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘Borat’ takes in $29 million to retain its No. 1 box office spot

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #470: Sacha Baron Cohen

OK, I fell for it. Even though none of any of Sasha Baron Cohen’s previous comedic stylings have impressed me as being even remotely funny, I decided that I wanted to see Borat. I’m not normally prone to hype, but I clearly fell for it this time around.

Rather than subject you to a long, psuedo-intellectual rambling on the artistic and comic merits of Borat, allow me to just give you the short version of my review. Borat is

THE.

WORST.

MOVIE.

EVER.

PERIOD.

END OF STORY.

Well, OK; if you like misogyny, racism, ethnocentrism, sexism, and/or just lame, not-funny jokes based on the appearance, beliefs, sexual orientation, and/or economic status of others, then you’ll LOVE Borat. If you enjoy having your intelligence insulted, if you find potty humor amusing, and/or if you enjoy running homosexuality jokes as a recurring theme in your movies, then, yes, by all means see Borat. (IMDB.com users give it an 8.4 out of 10 rating…God save our nation….)

Just don’t say you weren’t warned, ‘kay??

My humble suggestion: SAVE YOUR MONEY. Rent an Andrew Dice Clay DVD. He’s every bit as offensive as Cohen/Borat, but at least every now and then he’s funny…or something close to it.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Spend some quality time on a Saturday afternoon with She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities, see a movie, have a few laughs. Five minutes into Borat, I could already tell that she HATED the movie, and while I wasn’t exactly enamored of it, I was hoping that it would pick up. Forty-five minutes later, I’d had enough, and when I asked She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities if she wanted to leave, she responded with almost tangible relief.

Not only was Borat offensive, juvenile, misogynistic, and decidedly NOT FUNNY, we were not the first people to walk out of the showing we were subjected to. Judging by the reaction of the theater staff, walking out of Borat is a commonplace occurrence. She Who Endures My Myriad Eccentricities complained, and we got 2 free tickets to Stranger Than Fiction, which was actually quite enjoyable- reasonably well-written, with a decent plot and passable acting. All in all, we managed to salvage the afternoon.

There were a couple of things that we found quite disturbing, though. Borat was the #1 movie in the nation last weekend…which really wouldn’t seem to bode well for the national IQ. In addition, a number of people were actually laughing at Borat’s antics. Apparently, their are a disturbing number of people who find misogyny, racism, sexism, and/or potty humor terribly amusing. What does THAT say about our nation’s future?

I haven’t walked out of a movie since I saw Hudson Hawk in 1991, which until Saturday was easily and BY FAR the worst movie I’d ever seen. So, if you think I’m kidding about Borat being

THE.

WORST.

MOVIE.

EVER

…guess again. And save your money.

If I can save even ONE person from spending their hard-earned money on this racist, sexist, misogynistic piece of cinematic horsecrap, then this rant will have been well worth the effort and energy expended.

Thank you. That is all.
