Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Bartlett: Medicare Doesn’t Need To Negotiate Lower Prices Because Drugs Are Already Cheap Enough

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #472: Dan Bartlett

[O]n Fox News Sunday, White House counselor Dan Bartlett said the federal government does not need to negotiate lower prices for seniors. Bartlett said that prices have “come down” and drugs are already cheap enough. He concluded, “the proof is in the pudding.”

Sometimes I listen to various Bush Administration talking heads in absolute awe. I find myself stunned by their ability to shovel bullshit with a straight face. It’s a gift, really. How DO they do it without losing their minds?

Jeebus, do these people actually believe the crap they’re peddling? Have they been drinking the KoolAid for so long now that when Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader says that when he’s talking about war, he’s really talking about peace…they BELIEVE HIM?

Dan Bartlett is not a stupid man. Far from it. He is, however, as complete and total a DUMB@$$ as ever there was. He can peddle a talking point that EVERYONE, likely including himself, recognizes as total and complete bullshit, and yet he’s able to act as if no reasonable, thinking person could EVER contest the veracity OR accuracy of his bleating. OF COURSE he’s right. He’s speaking on Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s behalf; how could he not be correct??

Now he’s selling us the myth that drug prices for seniors are as low as they need to be, so why does the government need to be rattling the cages of good, God-fearing drug companies? What a load of crap…and yet Bartlett is selling it as if it couldn’t be ANYTHING but Gospel.

Kinda makes you wonder how this lying sack of dog excrement manages to sleep at night, doesn’t it?

How ‘bout y’all allow me to, courtesy of Think Progress and the New York Times, lay some facts on you about Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s “already cheap enough” Medicare prescription drug plan:

‚Äö√Ñ√¨ Taxpayers “could save as much as $190 billion over the next 10 years” if Medicare negotiated prices with drug makers.

– Medicare pays substantially more for drugs that the Veterans Administration, which negotiates prices with drug makers.

‚Äö√Ñ√¨ Since the program does not require any discount over list prices, “drug makers are being paid as much as 20 percent more for the same drugs that they had already been providing to recipients under the Medicaid program [for the indigent].”

It’s all good, though; Dan Bartlett has assured us that drug prices are already plenty low enough…ergo, problem solved, eh? You see? Wasn’t that easy? It’s so much easier when you allow the professionals to take care of the messy business of governing (and propagandizing), isn’t it?

Isn’t it wonderful that caring, professional politicians are taking care of drug companies’ bottom lines the People’s business? And isn’t it just bitchin’ that kind and thoughtful DUMB@$$ES like Dan Bartlett are there to reassure us that Our Government is there and on the job, looking out for our best interests?

Yeah, right. Whatever.

The New York Times reports, “For big drug companies, the new Medicare prescription benefit is proving to be a financial windfall larger than even the most optimistic Wall Street analysts had predicted.” If Congress passes a bill allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prices, the drug industry is counting on President Bush to veto it.

Sure, that sounds bad on it’s face, but as Bartlett might tell us, a rising tide lifts all boats, no? Besides, all those seniors citizens are doing is weighing us down and slowing the economic progress of our great country. And THAT, kids, are why drug prices are plenty low enough.

Survival of the fittest, don’tchaknow??

Jeebus…kinda makes you wonder what would happen if Bartlett actually had a conscience, doesn’t it??
