Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Former N.Y. Times reporter decries Bush policies: Liberties suffer, secrecy grows, reporter tells K-State crowd

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #473: Judith Miller

Gee, it’s so awfully nice of Judy to be so worried about us, isn’t it? After all, Journalism IS something best left to professionals, no? If not for the professional pundits and reporters telling us what to think, surely we’d all be a motley collection of ideological bereft and intellectually vacant empty shells. Thank GOD for pure, objective Journalists, without whom we would doubtless all be lost in a sea of misinformation and propaganda. Oh, wait…come to think of it, we ARE lost in a sea of misinformation and propaganda. And who might we have to thank for this? Hmm…how about the brave, selfless (and self-important) warrior-journalists of the Mainstream Media, the brave defenders of all that’s fit to print?

Jeebus, what a load of crap. Miller’s arrogance is almost as stunningly impressive as her selective memory. She seems to have conveniently forgotten how she was complicit in spreading the false Bush Administration propaganda that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

And what “standards” are these that Miller is insisting we bloggers must respect before we become “part of the club?” If she’s talking about standards like these…

  1. Never question Our Brave and Glorious Leader. We’re at war, don’tchaknow?,
  2. Publish Administration propaganda and talking points as if they’re immutable truths,
  3. Go strangely mute at Presidential press conferences or White House press briefings, even when confronted with what you know to be less than truthful,
  4. Act as if Adminstration talking points are the moral equivalent of research,
  5. Spread Administration propaganda on Iraq slavishly and unquestioningly, while roasting critics of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader as irrational, immature, and unpatriotic…

…then I’d rather not be a “member of the club.” Miller seems to hold herself and her profession in very high esteem, though I’m not at all certain it’s warranted. Look, bloggers have issues. For one, most of us don’t get paid nearly as handsomely as Miller…or at all, really. Some of us may not be the greatest fact-checkers…but, hey, Judy, how’s that “Iraq has WMDs” story line working out for you?

From where I sit, the only difference between most bloggers and professional journalists are 1) income and 2) resources. Other than that, we’re all just 500 monkeys sitting at 500 keyboards, praying that one of the monkeys will somehow crank out King Lear. The sooner Miller steps down from her pedestal, the sooner she’ll realize what an arrogant DUMB@$$ she is.
