Kissinger: Military victory no longer possible in Iraq

Kissinger, who advised Bush on Iraq, say it’s a civil war and we can’t win

LONDON — Military victory is no longer possible in Iraq, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said in a television interview broadcast today. In a wide ranging interview on British Broadcasting Corp. television, Kissinger presented a bleak vision of Iraq, saying the U.S. government must enter into dialogue with Iraq’s regional neighbors — including Iran — if any progress is to be made in the region….”If you mean by ‘military victory’ an Iraqi Government that can be established and whose writ runs across the whole country, that gets the civil war under control and sectarian violence under control in a time period that the political processes of the democracies will support, I don’t believe that is possible,” he said on the BBC’s Sunday AM breakfast show. But Kissinger warned against a rapid withdrawal of troops, saying it could lead to “disastrous consequences,” destabilizing Iraq’s neighbors and causing a long-lasting conflict.

Man, it must suck to be Our Glorious and Benevolent these days. You’re on the verge of becoming a VERY lame duck President, the Republican majority you’ve considered your birthright went the way of the buffalo on November 7th, and now it seems as if every day another Republican stalwart deserts you on your Glorious War of Liberation in Iraq.

Now Henry Kissinger has jumped ship. Before long, there won’t be anyone left to man the oars for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader. Now is the winter of his discontent…and he’s getting pummelled. Not that he doesn’t richly deserve it. You’ll have to pardon me if I’m enjoying this a wee bit too much.

So, how’s that whole “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” thing working out for you?? :o)

One piece of good news for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader is that it’s not as if Kissinger is casting his lot with Democrats in calling for a phased withdrawal from Iraq. No, Kissinger apparently thinks there’s some sort of middle ground, in which Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader can still achieve the continuing senseless murder of large numbers of American soldiers while still making it look as if we’re making progress in Iraq. Call it Vietnamization redux, the theory being that we can and should be able to turn Iraq over to Iraqis once we can train just a few more soldiers, policemen, civil servants, political leaders…etc., ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

The problem is that success in Iraq will always be out there somewhere, just beyond our grasp. The reality in Iraq is that we may have broken it, but WE CANNOT FIX. Events in Iraq continue taking on a life of there own, despite the best efforts and intentions of the American military and government. The sooner Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader recognizes this immutable truth, the better off we’ll all be.

It’s not about “cutting and running”. It’s about recognizing that we are on the cusp of a very Vietnam-like quagmire that continues to suck American resources and lives down the rabbit hole. How long do we continue tossing the lives of American soldiers at the problem, hoping against hope that somehow things will change? We’re not talking about abstract concepts here. We’re talking about flesh and blood Americans, with families and loved ones and hopes and dreams. They deserve better than to be sacrificed in a futile effort to save face for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader and his fellow neo-Conservative thugs.

NOW CAN WE IMPEACH THE LYING BASTARD??
