Learning the lessons of the midterm elections...or not

RNC Experiments With Heterosexual Chairman

Florida Senator to Be GOP’s New Chairman

Anti-gay Senator, with ties to Mark Foley, to head up Republican party

This is great news for social conservatives tired of worshiping a political party completely run by the homosexuals. Martinez is as anti-gay as they get without actually being gay. He does employ all kinds of gay staffers, but that’s pretty much the only way you have staffers at all. Anyway, it’s great that the GOP is sticking to its principles by putting a crooked hypocritical Jesus Freak nutbag in charge of the party.

You could be forgiven for thinking that getting their asses handed to them last week might have caused the GOP to undergo some serious reflection and introspection to determine how and why things went so terribly wrong. Yeah, you could forgiven…because you would’ve been dead wrong. Not only is the party of God, guns, and gay-bashing seemingly “staying the course”, they’ve appointed a head of the party who’s almost as corrupt and quite nearly as bat-shit crazy as Katherine Harris…no mean feat, that.

Under their new Fuhrer, Florida Sen. Mel Martinez, the GOP will no doubt continue to build and maintain a reputation for being a party of, by, and for Rich, White, Straight Evangelical Christians (Irony Alert: yes, I realize that Martinez is Hispanic). Martinez is particularly well known for his anti-gay rhetoric- even though two of the top two aides in his election campaign were gay. Yes, it would seem Martinez hates and despises gays…unless they can actually do something for him- like help him win an election.

And what degree of self-loathing must it take for a gay man to work for Martinez? How is it that you can work to re-elect a man whom you KNOW wants to essentially legislate you and all those like you out of existence? Doesn’t this seem a bit like St. Peter running interference for Satan?

Yes, A reasonable person might have thought that Republicans would try to actually determine how they might appeal to a wider segment of the American population in order to regain power. Then again, these are Republicans we’re talking about here, whose central ideological tenets seem firmly mired in the 12th century. So, perhaps if Martinez can drag the GOP kicking and screaming into the 14th century…well, that would be progress, eh?
