Dobson Quits Haggard Counseling Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 7) - Citing a lack of time, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson withdrew Tuesday from the team overseeing counseling for the Rev. Ted Haggard, the evangelical pastor who was fired amid allegations of gay sex and drug use….”Emotionally and spiritually, I wanted to be of help - but the reality is I don’t have the time to devote to such a critical responsibility,” Dobson said.
Gee…Ted Haggard must be horribly distraught (at his secure, undisclosed location). Here he’d probably been hoping that the good Rev. Dobson would be able to rehabilitate him into once again being a good, God-fearing, heterosexual Christian whose most deviant sexuality involves milfhunters.com, a tube of Astroglide, and a box of Kleenex.
If any y’all have seen the clip of Haggard from the movie “Jesus Camp”, you know what hypocritical troll he is. This is not a man who appeared to be tortuted by the demons of temptation tearing at the very fabric of his being. No, Haggard was perfectly willing to maintain his duplicitous lifestyle for as long as he needed to, because it got him the big church, the beautiful family, and the adulation of an adoring flock. He had it all, he knew it, and he was willing to do whatever it took, tell whatever lies he needed to tell, in order to keep it.
The fact that Ted Haggard was maintaing a three-year relationship with a male prostitute is not what did him in. He’s an adult, and if that is how he gets his rocks off, so be it; it’s a free country. No, what brought Haggard down is the rank hypocrisy, his continuing to preach against and condemn in no uncertain terms the very lifestyle that he was partaking in behind his family’s and his parishioner’s backs.
So, the deal is that after 3-5 years of “spiritual restoration”, Haggard will emerge all new and clean and shiny. He’ll be free of TEH GAY and immune to all impure thoughts, impulses, and actions? Yeah, right; good luck with that….
