Don’t Believe the Hype: Wal-Mart is Still in Bed with Homosexuality
American Family Association Calls Off Boycott, Rev. Flip Benham Responds
On this day after Thanksgiving, which marks the traditional beginning of the Holiday shopping season, behold the spirit of Christian love and charity in action. Or not. Yes, leave it to a collection of intolerant, self-righteous, knuckle-dragging religious zealots to trot out their bigotry and hatred on the beginning of the holiday celebrating the birth of their alleged Savior. Man, these buffoons wouldn’t know how to lead a Christ-like existence if you gave them a flashlight and an instruction manual.
Don’t get me wrong; I detest Wal-Mart. I detest the dismissive manner in which they treat their employees. I detest the 800-lb. gorilla way in which they kill small businesses in communities they move into. I especially detest the cutthroat manner in which they squeeze their suppliers for every last ounce of savings. Wal-Mart is generally not a positive addition to a community, unless you happen to own Wal-Mart stock. Bigger is not always better…unless as a consumer all you care about is low prices.
This latest campaign, though, is almost enough to make me run to Wal-Mart with my debit card and a shopping list. As much as I hate Wal-Mart and everything it stands for (and in case you haven’t already figured it out, I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart), no business deserves to be subejcted to the sort of narrow-minded zealotry that Rev. Flip Benham and his band of knuckle-dragging troglodytes have planned.
With all of the good things that Benham and his followers could do, things that could legitimately demonstrate Christian love and charity, they’ve chosen to focus their hatred and intolerance on homosexuals, a group that by and large just wants to be left alone to live as they see fit. And as far as Wal-Mart supporting “the homosexual agenda” goes, they’re only doing something that a growing number of businesses are. They’ve realized that the gay community is flush with cash and looking for places to spend it. Why wouldn’t Wal-Mart, or any other business, want to appeal to a group as generally affluent as the gay community? It’s not about homosexuality or supporting “the homosexual agenda”. It’s about money.
If Flip Benham and his merry band of zealots are Christians, then I’m Ann Coulter. These knuckle-dragging trolls are as much about the teachings of Jesus Christ as Osama bin-Laden. Benham and his zealots are merely hypocrites and fools of the first order masquerading as Christians.
What would Jesus do? He’d kick Benham’s ass and laugh while He was doing it….
