Nothing like the power of a deadline to lower standards, eh?

Oh, I almost forgot. November is National Novel Writing Month. There was a time, way back when (say, 2001) when I actually thought about participating. Hey, I’m a writer, November is 30 days long…what could go wrong? Well, as an exercise in writing, NaNoWriMo is a good thing…in theory, at least. As far as the craft of writing goes, if your goal is to produce a well-written, readable novel…well, let’s just say that setting arbitrary limits and deadlines isn’t the path to becoming the next F. Scott Fitzgerald.
