Dems outpace GOP in funding: But will 4-1 ratio translate to wins?

The Arizona Democratic Party has outraised and outspent its GOP counterpart by nearly four to one this campaign cycle, a funding peculiarity in a state where Republicans outnumber Democrats by more than 160,000. Leading up to the Nov. 7 general election, state Democrats have raised just over $5 million since November 2004, spending $4.3 million on state races. The Arizona GOP, as of a mid-October state finance report, had raised $1.4 million and spent $1.1 million. The figures represent the parties’ influence on state-level races, as opposed to congressional contests.

I never would have expected this, being that Arizona is almost a red as Texas. Whether or not this advantage in fundrasing will translate into electoral wins next Tuesday is hard to know, but money does by access, phone banks, mailers, and television and radio ads. Combine that with the growing perception that the GOP is clueless, corrupt, and hopelessly out of touch, and we could see a significant shift in the political winds in a few days.

Stay tuned….
