In Bushworld, if you don't like reality...well, you can create your own

George W. Bush - a disaster of epic proporitions

Bush, Maliki and That Memo

President Bush’s news conference yesterday with Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki of Iraq had an even greater than usual sense of unreality about it, with Mr. Bush insisting that Mr. Maliki is “the right guy for Iraq” and that American troops will stay “until the job is complete,” while Mr. Maliki asserted that his country is a democracy and he is not a captive of Shiite militias. But the disconnect seemed even more stunning once you realized that Mr. Bush’s national security adviser had sent him a memorandum three weeks ago describing how Iraq was being pulled apart by sectarian hatreds and warning that Mr. Maliki was either “ignorant of what is going on” or unwilling or unable to stop it.

So you don’t like the way things are? Well, if you happen to be Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader, you can just go ahead and create your own more pleasant and convenient reality. Even better, since you’ve surrounded yourself with careerists whose continued employment is dependent on supporting and feeding your new, more positive and pleasant reality.

Iraq’s embroiled in a civil war? Not at all. After all, you’re The Decider, and it’s not a civil war until you decide it is. Besides, if you admit to a civil war existing in Iraq, that really puts a dent in your push for “victory” and “staying until the job is done”, doesn’t it?

Yes, America, our sons and daughters continue to die in support of a policy put forward by a President clearly and dangerously out of touch. What’s happening is without a doubt a civil war, and yet Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader continues to carry on as if glorious victory is just around the corner. This from a man who seems immune to news of what is actually happening within Iraq. Anyone who watches the 6 o’clock news can get a pretty good idea of the chaos and indiscriminate killing taking place inside Iraq on a daily basis. Yet Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader seems willing to ignore the abject reality in order to focus on his opinion that the American military is on the verge of a glorious and decisive victory.

Man, can I get a hit of whatever it is he’s been smoking??
