Another New Life Pastor Resigns For Getting His Gay On
An executive staff member at New Life Church in Colorado Springs has resigned after admitting to sexual misconduct and other mistakes - the result of an examination of the staff’s moral makeup after the ouster of senior pastor Ted Haggard, a church official said Sunday. Christopher Beard, who headed a ministry that trained young adults in leadership skills, stepped down Friday after admitting to “a series of decisions displaying poor judgment, including one incident of sexual misconduct several years ago,” said Rob Brendle, an associate pastor at the 14,000- member church.
Maybe it’s the water. Maybe it’s the cold, clear mountain air. It might even be the wide open spaces. Most likely, it’s just the air of self-righteous self-superiority that seems to come with being a Christian in Colorado. Of course, when the mighty and the self-righteous fall off their pedestal, it’s going to make quite a mess.
This wouldn’t even be an issue if Evangelicals like those at Colorado Springs’ New Gay Life Church weren’t so hung up on homosexuality. Perhaps if they actually devoted their time and energy to following the teachings of Jesus Christ, fewer people’s lives and careers would be destroyed.
Then again, I think part of the problem here is that without someone to hate, Evangelicals seem almost lost and adrift, their lives seemingly without purpose or meaning. Without being able to point out how decidedly pious and superior they are to mere mortals and heathen unbelievers, most Evangelicals seem not to know what to do with themselves.
