Never let it be said that the man doesn't eventually recognize the truth

Bush wants to expand military in terror war: He says U.S. not winning in Iraq and orders Gates to develop a plan

WASHINGTON ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ President Bush acknowledged for the first time Tuesday that the United States is not winning the war in Iraq and said he plans to expand the overall size of the “stressed” U.S. armed forces to meet the challenges of a long-term global struggle against terrorists. As he searches for a new strategy for Iraq, Bush has adopted the formula advanced by his top military adviser to describe the situation. “We’re not winning, we’re not losing,” Bush said in an interview with the Washington Post. The assessment was a striking reversal for a president who, days before the November elections, declared, “Absolutely, we’re winning.”

Never understimate the power of self-delusion and propaganda. With the current regime in the White House, the truth is whatever best serves their ends and whatever they can convince the American sheeple it is. They can do this because of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s willingness to twist and bend the truth into whatever he needs it to be in order to support whatever he’s convinced himself that reality is.

Remember when this sorry excuse for a President was insisting that we’re winning in Iraq? You should, because it wasn’t all that long ago- just prior to the midterm elections, in fact. He knew that people weren’t going to vote for a collection of defeatists, so he beat the propaganda drums as long as he needed to. Of course we’re winning in Iraq; we’re Americans, and Americans don’t lose. Americans don’t cut and run. Americans stay the course, and they leave only when the job is done. Better to fight terrorists in the streets of Baghdad than the streets of New York, eh? When Iraqis can stand up, America will stand down. (Man, am I on a roll here or what? I’m turning into a regular cliche machine.)

If you drank the KoolAid, and too many Americans have been for far too long, you would have thought that Our Glorious and Benevolent’s glorious war in Iraq was a freakin’ victory celebration. Yeah, a bunch of Americans were being killed by roadside bombs…but that’s OK, ‘cuz of course we’re winning the “long war” in Iraq.

We’re Americans. How could we NOT be winning?

Bush chose a different term to describe the military’s plight than Powell. “I haven’t heard the word ‘broken,’ ” he said, “but I’ve heard the word, ‘stressed.’ … We need to reset our military. … And the fundamental question is, ‘Will Republicans and Democrats be able to work with the administration to assure our military and the American people that we will position our military so that it is ready and able to stay engaged in a long war?’ “….

Bush, who has always said that the United States is headed for victory in Iraq, conceded Tuesday what Gates, Powell and most Americans in polls have already concluded. “An interesting construct that General Pace uses is: We’re not winning, we’re not losing,” Bush said, referring to Marine Gen. Peter Pace, the Joint Chiefs chairman.

Asked Tuesday about his “absolutely, we’re winning” comment at an Oct. 24 news conference, the president recast it as a prediction rather than an assessment.

“Yes, that was an indication of my belief we’re going to win,” he said.

Yes, this is truly indicative of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s gift for self-delusion and ignoring the blindingly obvious until it no longer serves his purpose to be such an ignorant, self-serving Pollyanna.

How many innocent Iraqis, and how many of our sons and daughters have died while “The Decider” went about deciding that we weren’t in fact winning in Iraq? How many people paid with their lives for his indecision, his willingness to ignore and spin the truth to serve his purpose, and his ability to ignore the clear and obvious reality that we are not winning in Iraq? How many have been slaughtered to service Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s pride and arrogance? My God, what a sorry excuse for a human being…never mind a President.

NOW CAN WE IMPEACH THE LYING, MURDERING BASTARD??
