"The current approach is not working...."

Report: Iraq conditions ‘grave and deteriorating’

Panel Calls for New Approach to Iraq

The report is a dud

Text of Iraq Study Group Report

It’s the question on everyone’s lips today. How long will it be before Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader tosses the Iraq Study Group’s report into the back of a closet and continues on “staying the course”? My own personal guess is about 72 hours, or about as long as it takes for the Mainstream Media to move onto other “news” (What? Britney Spears isn’t wearing panties? Again? Film at 11….).

I was listening to CNN yesterday morning when I heard John King misspeak in a manner more revealing that even he likely intended. King said “it’ll be awhile before the Administration can overlook all of the report’s recommendations.” On the contrary, I think it’s quite likely that this Administration is already well on it’s way to overlooking the report’s recommendations…and not in the way King meant.

All of the bowing and genuflecting coming out of the White House yesterday was undoubtedly so much stage-managed propaganda carefully calibrated for maximum propaganda value. While Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader said all the right things and made all the right noises, I think it’s highly unlikely this his arrogance will allow him to do anything except what he wants to. Just as all of his post-election noise about “bipartisanship” was carefully couched propaganda (translation: “We’ll work together to find solutions, as long they realize I’m the Decider, and that I’m not going to do anything I don’t want to do. Now THAT’s bipartisanship.”)

Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader will no doubt cherry-pick from the Iraq Study Group’s report the things that he already wanted to do. Then he will trumpet his actions as the triumph of bipartisanship. Administration flacks will hit the Sunday morning talk shows to beat the drums for Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s commitment to “bipartisanship”. The American sheeple will swallow the KoolAid without so much as a question. Thus will we continue on the exact same path we’re travelling now. Same as it ever was….

So…just what did the Iraq Study Group accomplish, except for getting a lot of face time for Lee Hamilton and James Baker? Well, the jury’s still out, of course, but I feel pretty comfortable saying that in the end the report will change exactly…nothing.

Your tax dollars at work…or not….
