IRAQ ‘APPEASE’ SQUEEZE ON W.: PANEL KISSES UP TO IRAN & SYRIA
WASHINGTON - The Iraq Study Group report delivered to President Bush yesterday contains 79 separate recommendations - but not one that explains how American forces can defeat the terrorist insurgents, only ways to bring the troops home.
Gee, what a shock, eh? The New York Post (owned by Rupert Murdoch) seems to have taken the lead in smearing the Iraq Study Group and it’s report. Hey, it’s not as if Our Glorious and Benevolent leader is going to use the report for anything but political cover (I’m bipartisanizing!!), but the Republican Noise Machine seems to be in full throat.
The Post, to newspapers what Fox News Channel is to television, has during Murdoch’s tenure had an exceedingly tenuous relationship with the truth. To describe the Post’s editorial board as a collection of hand-picked knee-jerk reactionaries would be something of an understatement.
Clearly, the Far Right refuses to countenance anything that they can even remotely interpret as “weak”. No, they’re all about victory…though they like can’t really define just what in the Hell that means. Bring the troops home? Why, that’s “cutting and running”…and real Americans don’t leave until the job is done.
OK, but what’s the job? At this point, what are we trying to accomplish? And doesn’t the reality on the ground seem to condemn us to a long and bloody involvement in a pointless war that has long since become this generation’s Vietnam? Who says “cutting and running” is such a bad idea when you face that reality?
Why shouldn’t common sense prevail? Why shouldn’t we be able to demand that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader stop feeding our sons and daughters into the Iraqi meatgrinder? And when will those chickenhawks on the Right admit that they’re all for the war in Iraq…just as long as their children aren’t the ones doing the fighting and dying.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Rupert Murdoch….
